I know I should have posted this here yesterday: Robin Williams has sadly passed away due to suicide. He was suffering from depression and alcoholism. He was one of a kind- making us laugh and cry in a unique way only he knew. He'll always be remembered. Also: he had had a small role in Hamlet, but no common scenes with Kate.

When I found out I cried. He was such a big part of my childhood...he was a big part of everyone's life really...He was an amazing man with so much talent to share, and it is such a pity to see his light gone from the world. And up until the end, despite everything that was happening to him, he hid it all behind a smile.
He was an amazing man and he will be missed.
RIP Robin Williams.

Indeed But the saddest part is, they aren't coming back... Even if people appear with the same amount of talent (and there's plenty of young actors out there who do love to act, and not because they want to see their face on the internet), I doubt they'll capture our hearts as fast and as long as these actors did...

And, btw, RIP Lauren Bacall too.

And what I said earlier about the younger, talented actors: maybe Kate's generation isn't the last to produce legends (eg. Kate, Cate Blanchett etc), but also the generation right after them (the actors who are in their early 20s- middle-to-late 30s) also are talented. It's not that hard to recognize the diamonds from the rust these days

And I agree, there are still many generations to come for great actors to appear! Just look at Jennifer Lawrence and what an amazing inspiration and actress she is! She's young!
But they will never be able to effect us the way some did...

No, I think some of them too... And I wasn't only referring to Jennifer Lawrence (she's talented and all, but I don't find her THAT inspiring for a reason...) I think there are some actresses who do know how to influence us, draw us to what exactly they feel while we see them on screen and make us want to get inspired by them and change our lives a little bit so that they're a bit similar in the areas we want to have in common with their characters. And not just with their characters, but also with them as people. I had the same opinion as you, that only the actors of the 1940s- 1970s will be the most inspiring ever, but I changed my mind when I got to know more about Kate. And now I see actors/actresses younger than Kate who do give me the same impact, personally. Like Michelle Dockery or Dan Stevens from Downton Abbey (they do play the couple in the series, but they are also very talented as individuals as well). Or- to go back to the whole (and my brother's) obsession with Game of Thrones and (my) obsession with The Tudors- looks like Natalie Dormer is shaping herself up to be a legend as well. Not to mention that she's the ONLY actress that could pull off Elsa's character, were she less busy and a little younger I don't know, maybe it's because she's also from Reading, so there must be something in the water they drink there and all the actors that come from there are that gifted

Agreed!
Older actors such as Dick Van Dyke from Mary Poppins and other such movies really will have more of an influence on us. I think one of the reasons being that when they made their movies, the world wasn't as bad as it is now. Good people were more easy to come by.
But of course there still are good people in the industry, but not like how it used to be...that's why we love older stars more! (That's just my crazy theory!)

Also, do y'all think we should start to think of names for the new thread?

I don't think so... Just think that these people went through one or two world wars and also a lot of political mess and instability in their lives with the constant change of the society around them, maybe they wanted something to hold on to, and that was humanity? Of course they seem happier to us but remember that they had to do so, so that they make the audiences enjoy themselves. That's why they're so special to us nowadays

And we should look at the previous threads first, so that we won't use the same title twice
