A statement regarding “Heroes” cancellation from creator Tim Kring ...

Regarding NBC’s decision not to renew the international hit “Heroes” for a fifth season, creator and executive producer, and award winning transmedia storyteller, Tim Kring commented: “I want to first extend my deepest gratitude and heartfelt appreciation to the legion of enthusiastic fans who have watched ‘Heroes’ on TV, online, DVR, DVD and mobile over the last four seasons.

Every week more than 45 million TV viewers around the world, as well as millions of social and digital media-based fans, have made ‘Heroes’ one of the five most-watched shows across traditional and digital media screens in the history of television.

For NBC, I certainly understand the challenge of creating a business model around a show which arrived precisely as the audience was finding new ways to watch traditional content on multiple screens.

I personally have had 12 great years with my friends at NBC, and with ‘Heroes,’ they provided me a rare opportunity to put a message of hope, interconnectivity and global consciousness into the world. For that I am grateful and look forward to finalizing our discussion about a number of ways to keep the ‘Heroes’ universe alive for its fans.”

I don't know about you. But I wanted more from this statement. I mean it started really good and I was all into it, then it got kind of confusing and I wasn't sure if Kring knew where he was going with the narrative. By the end of the statement, I was just looking for closure.

Heroes ended its season last February with the indestructible Claire (Hayden Panettiere) throwing herself from the top of a Ferris wheel in front of the media, revealing her superpower to the world. Should the axed series return with a wrap-up miniseries—that's creator Tim Kring's hope, and he says he's meeting with NBC this month to discuss it — the plot will skip ahead a year or so to see the effect of Claire's revelation.

"There will be a huge cultural and social change in the world," says Kring. "Some [of our characters] will be hiding, some struggling, some basking in the glory."

Claire, who desperately wanted a normal life, will become a reluctant spokesperson for the abnormals. Sylar (Zachary Quinto) will again struggle with his dark side. And Adrian Pasdar will likely return, though not as Nathan, who died.

Kring is confident he can lure back his entire cast if he gets a green light. (NBC refused to comment.)

"I've spoken with everyone," says Kring. "They're all eager to participate."

angels of american casting love the play

Quote:

Initial casting for the September revival of Tony Kushner’s Pulitzer Prize-winning “Angels in America” includes Zachary Quinto and Billy Porter, according to two theater executives involved with the Signature Theater Company production.

Mr. Quinto, who played Spock in the 2009 film “Star Trek” and Sylar on the television series “Heroes,” will portray the sarcastic Louis Ironson. Mr. Porter, an actor and singer who has performed in Lincoln Center’s American Songbook series, has been cast as Belize, the nurse and former drag queen.

In the 1993 Broadway production of the two-part “Angels,” about politics, AIDS and love, Joe Mantello played Louis and Jeffrey Wright played Belize. Mr. Mantello was nominated for a Tony Award for best featured actor in a play for the role in Part 1 of “Angels,” “Millennium Approaches.” Mr. Wright won the Tony for best featured actor in a play for his work in Part 2, “Perestroika.”

The two theater executives, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak for Signature, said on Thursday that the company was in talks with the actor Christian Borle to play Prior Walter, a gay man with AIDS, whose health causes his boyfriend, Louis, to leave him. Mr. Borle was nominated for a Tony in 2007 for best featured actor in a musical when he played the teaching assistant Emmett in “Legally Blonde.”

A spokesman for the “Angels” production had no comment on the casting.

The Off Broadway revival will be directed by Michael Greif (“Next to Normal,” “Rent”), and will mark the first time that “Angels” has been produced on a major New York stage since the Broadway production of Parts 1 and 2 closed in December 1994.

The two parts of “Angels” will run in repertory at Signature from Sept. 14 through Dec. 19.

Little video of Zach at the CFDA awards

Zachary Quinto and Simon Spurr on Bringing the Dickey Back | NBC New York

And a little article..

Quote:
Zachary Quinto gets dapper for CFDA gala

Zachary Quinto popped up at the CFDA awards looking rather dapper in a tux by his friend (and nominee) Simon Spurr.

USA TODAY's Andrea Mandell asked the Trekkie if he's always been so well-heeled. "It's a matter of opinion," he joked. "I was preppy J. Crew kid in high school. I've learned."

Quinto is taking the reigns on his career, starring in and producing indie flick Margin Call in New York this summer with Kevin Spacey and Stanley Tucci. "It's about the collapse of the financial institution," he says.

Has it been difficult gaining access to buildings in the buttoned-up financial district? "It hasn't been hard to find places to shoot down there," he says. "There's no shortage of vacated office buildings."

transcript of a recent press conference about Lucid, with Zach, Corey Moosa and Michael McMillian

Heres a little bit from it..
Quote:
What is Before the Door actually working on right now?
ZQ: Corey and I have stolen away to take time for this interview from the production office where we’re about to start shooting a movie. We’re excited about that; it’s taking up a lot of our time in a really great way and there are a lot of hands on deck right now. And then after that the other comic book we have is with our long time friend and collaborator Victor Quinaz, Mister Murder is Dead, and that’s really exciting and very different from LUCID, and vibrant in ways, and really exciting for all of us too. We’re really trying to diversify ourselves as a company and figure out what the internet is and how to use it. I’m really lucky to be surrounded by people who understand it far better than I ever will. Corey, chief among them, and Neal. That stuff is all being figured out. Some comedy in the works. We’re working with Victor a lot on a couple different things. In addition to Mister Murder is Dead we have two other films we’re working on with Victor. One that he’ll be directing that he wrote; a quirky intelligent comedy that takes place in a casino in the aftermath of a hurricane with some really vivid characters and really whacky situations. That’s something that’s really different from the movie we’re producing now. We want to be in different territories all the time, stirring things up.

CM: We have our feet wet in every aspect of this industry; we’re so excited about the comic book properties. I’m a huge comic book fan, but we’re really excited about the movie we’re working right now. Television and internet, as Zach said. We’re all over the place, trying to be as diverse as possible. We couldn’t really define Before The Door Pictures as doing one thing; we want to do everything.

What’s your creative philosophy behind choosing Archaia? (popculturehound.com)
ZQ: It wasn’t really flashy; it was really actually clear instead. We had a lot of meetings with different companies and liked some very much and learned something from all of them, but I just know that there was a completely different vibe with Stephen Christy and with Archaia and what they’re doing, how they’re doing it – it just resonated with us on a level that’s kind of difficult to articulate. It’s just that thing that you know that there is a partnership that’s going to serve everyone involved.

CM: We did meet with all of these different companies and Stephen Christy was who we met first and foremost. The impression Stephen made on us was enormous because we had taken so many other meetings with other publishers, and we initially had the idea of using Zach’s image. Everyone was jumping on that property whether they liked it or not – they were just interested because we were going to use Zach’s image to promote it, and Stephen was the one who actually went after other properties. We were like, oh they’re actually interested in quality and not just celebrity, and that was such a huge thing for us.

Will there be a panel at Comic Con this year for LUCID with Archaia? Will you be attending? (From sylarsarmy.com)

ZQ: Maybe. Should I go for it? I’m going to have a pretty whirlwind experience if I make it to comic con this year. Gonna be crazy! Yeah there’s a LUCID panel, and I may try to pop in.
CM: We have a panel on July 23rd on Friday (4:30 to 5:30pm), and I dunno, could be Zachary Quinto there, making everybody really really happy.
ZQ: Yeah we’ll see, right? Be kinda cool.
CM: I will be doing jumping jacks for half an hour during the panel which I’m really really good at so have your cameras ready.
ZQ: I’m holding you to that, you know that right? I mean, if I go.
CM: I hope somebody prints that and everybody in the world is expecting it, I’ll be really really excited.
ZQ: Can you imagine if you had to do thirty minutes of jumping jacks, Corey?
CM: Well at least I didn’t say push-ups.
ZQ: Let’s go before Corey does something he’s really going to regret.

"The Mentalist" star Simon Baker and Paul Bettany are in negotiations to join the cast of "Margin Call," an indie drama that tackles the recent financial crisis.

Written by J.C. Chandor, who also directs, the project revolves around employees of an investment bank during a tumultuous 24-hour period during the 2008 financial collapse.

Baker will portray a ruthless, high-powered securities broker who oversees the characters played by Kevin Spacey, Stanley Tucci and Zachary Quinto and drives his colleagues to win by any means necessary.

Bettany will play a top-tier trader, unabashedly unafraid of who he is even as the crisis deepens.

Quinto is producing with Neal Dodson and Corey Moosa, his partners at Before the Door Pictures. Also aboard to produce are Joe Jenckes and Benaroya Pictures' Michael Benaroya and Robert Ogden Barnum.

The film begins shooting next week in New York.

Baker has been nominated twice for a Golden Globe and once for an Emmy for his portrayal of private eye Patrick Jane on CBS' hit show "Mentalist". He appears in Michael Winterbottom's "The Killer Inside Me," opposite Casey Affleck, Jessica Alba and Kate Hudson, which is being released by IFC Films. He is repped by CAA and Untitled.

Bettany, repped by WME and Independent Talent Group, recently wrapped "The Tourist" with Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie. He next stars as a vampire hunter in the post-apocalyptic Screen Gems flick "Priest."
