I hope she got rid of the devil bangs by then! She's actually tolerable in the fic, if not only because she's helping Tim and simultaneously lusting after him so you know...she's a little bit of all of us.

Too bad Tim was taken down with him.
Billy has never been accused of making good decisions.

He seems more like a working with his hands kind of guy regardless, so in that case I do believe the writers got it right. He went to college for Lyla and Billy, and when Lyla was out of the picture and the going was too tough he gave up knowing he'd having Riggins Riggs to fall back on.
I think that he would have loved football so much that he would have stayed in college just to play. Then he could go back to Riggins Riggs.

Even in the podcast Derek did with the Brunch guys, he admitted he was like I always find myself defending Billy because sometimes I listen to people talk about what he's done and think wow "this guys a real *******."

He also said he could justify anything Billy did.

I don't think he loved football enough to go to classes!

This is true, it was always about football and Dillon and Texas. But when he goes hunting with Matt he laments the fact that he didn't even see any playing time, that the coaches weren't like Coach T, and that he was buried on the bench behind who knows how many other guys. Which, in college is a real wakeup for some players, but with Tim he's too short sighted to wait it out, pay his dues, which I too think is in character. In high school you're this star, always have been, never had anyone better around you, you get to college and suddenly a guy to your right and your left is standing there who have equal talent if not better.

I don't remember him saying that. I will have to rewatch that scene. This is my niece's biggest worry. She doesn't want to commit to 4 years of sitting the bench. When they recruit you they give you the moon and stars... but then you have to believe they are telling everyone that.

It's when they're sitting around the fire during the hunting scene. I think Matt asks him about college and he just complains about having curfew and early practices and the coaches are robotic and he didn't see any playing time. But yeah, I can imagine it's a wake up call for freshman who were these stars and then they come in and might not even sniff any playing time if they're redshirted. You would hope the kid would have a support system from the program and family that would talk them down off the ledge, but you know, Tim probably didn't have either. I mean we KNOW he doesn't have the family support system he needs and he basically cut Lyla off completely, she probably could have talked him into staying.

This all just reminds me of Last Chance U, a lot of the guys who are at the junior college either failed out of D1 schools because of grades or transferred because they weren't getting playing time. One of the QB's came from Florida State because he was riding the bench, eventually he gets picked up by Auburn after spending a season at the junior college.

He made me uncomfortable a few times, that and when he was talking about crying thinking about Taylor going to jail because they were just that close. I get it with the man love but maybe don't share that with everyone. But it was sweet.

Haha!

I would LOVE to put his justification to the test. Let's discuss that Derek...

I meant to tell you that my friend's son.. the one that was playing D3 ball in college but decided not to continue. I went to one of his games and they were playing a Jr. College like that. They were REALLY good. I guess because they were all cast offs from D1 school. He is transferring to a huge D1 college in the south and is super excited. He's not going to play football.

Those junior colleges are no joke, the recruiting process coming into a D1 school is kind of shady though. I want to say that there are some issues with pulling JUCO players instead of recruiting right out of high school because you never really know if those JUCO players are going to be academically eligible, but a lot of them are just more game time ready then high schoolers, so they might pull in a late JUCO recruit that pushes out a high school recruit. College football is such big business. That's exciting that he's going to a big southern school, even if he's not playing football. Going to a big school like that is exciting.
