The Friday Nights Lights OT #2: Because It Can't Be All About Tim All The Time

The all encompassing Friday Night Lights thread to discuss any and all actors from the show and just the show in general because even though it's been 10-years since it premiered it remains one of the most beloved shows out there. And even we sometimes have to admit the show was about more than just Tim Riggins.

"Inspired by the legendary Buzz Bissinger book Friday Night Lights: A Town, a Team, and a Dream, and the 2004 Peter Berg movie based on it, FNL told the story of a high school football coach from Dillon, Texas, whose improbable victories mirrored those of the critically beloved — but disastrously rated — show itself. In an era when sports television was supposedly at its nadir, when elite storytelling was supposedly only the work of prestige outlets like HBO and AMC, Friday Night Lights emerged as the quintessential show about American spirit and uplift at a time when the moral and economic bedrock of our Country seemed most in doubt.

Gone too soon. Appreciated too little. Treasured by those who followed it. That was Friday Night Lights." -Grantland

Here's the Amazon Blurp

Talk to any of the millions of devoted Friday Night Lights fans and they'll tell you: it's not just a show about high school football. Its rich, interesting characters and honestly portrayed relationships make the show's portrait of West Texas life compelling and relatable in ways that have nothing--and everything--to do with touchdowns.

A Friday Night Lights Companion celebrates the show, its fearlessness, and what it's meant to those who love it.

* Dave Campbell's Texas Football managing editor Travis Stewart provides a moving tribute to the power of high school football, by way of unlikely hero Matt Saracen
* Jonna Rubin shares the lessons she's learned from the best marriage on television: Eric and Tami Taylor's (lesson number one: drink more wine)
* Television Without Pity writer Jacob Clifton offers a meditation on one of Friday Night Lights' most fundamental values: being a part of something bigger than yourself
* The Washington Post's Jen Chaney reminds us what we love most about all our favorite Dillon residents, from Tim Riggins to Buddy Garrity to Jess Merriweather
* New New Media author Paul Levinson shows how the alliance between NBC and DirecTV saved Friday Night Lights
* And more writing and reflections on Friday Night Lights

A Friday Night Lights Companion takes you from series pilot to series finale, through all five masterfully crafted seasons' worth of love, loss, family, and football.

I think I might actually have the FNL companion book, but I'm not sure I've read it. Maybe I'm just imagining this. I'll have to go check my bookcase. I buy way too many things relating to FNL/Taylor, I can't even keep track.

TFTNT!

Oh and also, I totally was watching some terrible Lifetime movie that had Mindy Riggins as the lead (Stacie Oristano?) anyway, it says something that even though it was a Lifetime movie she was still probably one of the better acting leads I've seen. She made the movie tolerable.

ETA: So this is out of order now. Sorry. I posted it before I remembered we had an OP. So to add the OP, I had to move this.

Have y'all read the The FNL companion book?

Here are the last few posts from the other thread:

I'm more offended that the list is 16 shows, not 15, not 20...16. Not cool. FNL is the only one I feel is deserving of a GG revival. They rest, with the exception of Ugly Betty, Gossip Girl, and One Tree Hill, is just a list of shows the writer is bitter got cancelled without wrapping up storylines. That is NOT a reason to revive them.

I'm offended that they consider FNL a "teen show" but regardless, one of the '00's shows that they think should get a Gilmore Girls revival. I'm convinced it'll happen one day!

Sure, sure Texas forever, but it's more like Taylor Kitsch forever. A reunion of the Dillon Panthers would allow fans of the show to see what happened after Coach Eric Taylor decided not to be the coach, to see one last game that has Jason Street, Tim Riggins, Matt Saracen, Landry Clarke, Luke Cafferty, and Brian "Smash" Williams teaming up with Coach one last time to prove it's all true: clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose. Never forget it.

And the answer is, I totally have the companion book. Never been opened. Maybe I'll read it now, I've been looking for something to read after I finished The Girl On The Train.

I'll start reading it, maybe tomorrow.

Another Lifetime movie featuring an FNL alum, Tim's cougar, Jackie. She has some pixie blonde haircut and of course in true Lifetime fashion, her daughter was abducted 14 years ago and now she's back!

I'm not into the Lifetime flicks. I know all my friends are but I can't do it. Although there is one with Paul Wesley if you ever catch it. It's called The Russell Girl. They play it on Lifetime every now and then. I am good for a nice Golden Girls marathon on Lifetime though. lol

Woo hoo, update to shipping says I should have it on Tuesday! I still don't understand why it wouldn't come 2nd day; it said it qualified for prime. I ordered three items; none shipping together. One arrived Friday, one supposed to be here Tuesday, and one item hasn't even shipped yet. Two of the items are a medication for my son. I need them both to give them to him... Oh first world problems.

I'm not a big Lifetime watcher usually either. I need football to come back so I don't have to suffer through terrible movies any longer.

I miss my Amazon Prime.

I just came across this picture...I'd forgotten these three went to the Teen Choice Awards. I wonder how much eye rolling Taylor did throughout the show.

I read somewhere recently that Taylor gives his publicist a lot of push back on what he wears. If there was any awards show he could get away with this... it's this one. I wasn't sure the tidbit was entirely reliable information (so I didn't post it), but I could see there being truth in it. This was pretty early on, I could see him not wanting to be all industry and conform to their demands. Rebel in bluejeans. Was the bandana really necessary?
