Maybe? Though I think probably some roles just get to him unexpectedly. Like True Detective.

There was a short mention today about the likelihood that Inferno would be bought up and sold globally after the AFM festival, so that's good.

Good news for Inferno.

Quote:
AFM sales title 'Inferno' draws major buyers for AGC Studios

AGC Studios has reported strong sales at AFM on its upcoming sci-fi thriller Inferno, one of the major draws of the market that has Neill Blomkamp on board to direct.

Rights have closed in the UK (Entertainment Film Distribution), France (Metropolitan), Germany and Switzerland (Leonine), Latin America (Sun), South Korea (Joy N Content), Spain (Tripictures), Middle East (Selim Ramia), and Portugal (Nos Lusomundo).

Further deals closed in Russia (Top Film), Eastern Europe (Vertical Entertainment), Singapore (Clover), Israel (United King), Taiwan (Movie Cloud), Thailand (Sahamongkolfilm), Indonesia (T Primera), Philippines (Pioneer), Vietnam (Noori Pictures), Greece (Odeon) and Turkey (BG Film).

Negotiations are ongoing in remaining territories.

Blomkamp outlined his vision to buyers at the market last week (November 6, pictured), and added a second presentation after the first session last Wednesday was packed out and dozens of buyers were unable to get inside the AGC Studios offices.

Taylor Kitsch will play a police officer investigating a murder case whose wife gets kidnapped. AGC Studios has positioned the film as a highly commercial tentpole.

“It takes a giant galactic idea and pares it down to a murder mystery,” Blomkamp told Screen last week. The South African filmmaker revealed that after he spent time preparing Alien 5, which ultimately did not move ahead, he became fascinated by the police procedural genre, and wanted to steer towards ”more cerebral, philosophical films” shrouded in danger. He cited Prometheus and The Silence Of The Lambs as tonal reference points.

Inferno is out to casting, and Blomkamp and AGC Studios head Stuart Ford are eying a March 2020 start in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

AGC Closes Major Territory Deals For Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Inferno’ – AFM

AGC Studios has closed several multi-million dollar territory sales for Neill Blomkamp’s next sci-fi movie, Inferno, which is set to go into production this March in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

In Inferno, Taylor Kitsch plays a cop who is called to investigate a seemingly ordinary murder in the New Mexico desert. The arrival of the FBI confirms his suspicions that something bigger – perhaps extraterrestrial – is at play. The hunt for the killer puts him face-to-face with a humanoid beast who will stop at nothing to exterminate the one witness to the crime.

Among the offshore sales for Inferno are France (Metropolitan), Germany & Switzerland (Leonine), Greece (Odeon), Portugal (NOS Lusomundo), Spain (Tripictures), UK (Entertainment Film Distribution), Eastern Europe (Vertical Entertainment), Russia (Top Film), Latin America (Sun Distribution), Indonesia (PT Prima), Korea (Joy N Content), Phillipines (Pioneer), Singapore (Clover), Taiwan (Movie Cloud), Thailand (Sahamongkolfilm), Vietnam (Noori Pictures), Israel (United King), Middle East (Selim Ramia) and Turkey (BG F). Talks are ongoing for other markets.

Production is due to get underway in early 2020. CAA Media Finance also brokered the AGC financing deal and is co-repping domestic and Chinese rights. Inferno is currently casting. Blomkamp’s 2013 sci-fi film Elysium remains his highest-grossing at the global B.O. with $286m followed by District 9 which made $211M.

AGC Studios had the No. 1 movie stateside this past weekend, Roland Emmerich’s Midway, which made $21.1M over the 4-day holiday from Lionsgate.

It’s already better funded than 21 bridges.

This just makes me happy because that means it's happening, if sales are good like this then it will have the financing and move forward. These independents can sometimes get pushed back so having this backing means they'll hopefully stay on schedule.

I know we have a while yet, but I kindve wish there was a trailer for this, at least a mini one. I'm kindve curious as to what the humanoid beast is supposed to look like. But also I've always found it hot for Taylor in uniform for some reason... that's been a huge draw for me, he seemed to be able to pull it off really well.

I kind of hope it's some type of beast that is just there in theory and we don't see them...the aliens always disappoint me.

Oh, I did like the Aliens in Arrival.

There’s a pic of him in uniform in 21 bridges.

That would be nice for a change too, something thats there in theory or like the 'silent' kinda movies or something where you "hear" but never really see anything.

Kind of like Bird Box. You never actually see what the thing is that they're hiding from/running from.

I don't think that will be the case in this movie but who knows.

Yeah, exactly! I think that would be cool for something different instead of actually seeing it. I kind've wish they'd do more movies like that.

:shrugs:

Little more info about Inferno:

Quote:
You’re an actor who can be a leading man and a character actor as needed. When making choices at this point, are you less concerned with the type of role as long as the writing, cast and filmmaker are compelling?

Obviously, I’ve had great lows, great highs and this and that. I’ve worked with some amazing people. That’s always been the target — just be scared, be uncomfortable and take risks. My next one with is with (Neill) Blomkamp, and it is the lead. My character is basically in every scene of this movie, but the character and the tone of this is what draws me. I could honestly give a **** if I’m fifteenth on the call sheet or first. I see myself as a character actor first, and it really boils down to that. While kind of impossible, if David Koresh was seventh on the call sheet, I still would’ve done Waco. I love coming in and playing a flashy guy like Ray and supporting Chadwick, a guy who’s been doing great work and is an even better guy. So, I have no problem doing one scene if it’s something worthy or something that makes me uncomfortable.

What else can you say about Neill Blomkamp’s Inferno?

It’s about a guy who loses everything and will do anything to get it back. There’s some beautiful undertones with addiction and immigration. It’s something that I can’t wait to dive into. It’ll be very challenging; it’s emotionally raw.
