I forgot if I read it or saw it on the DVD extras, but Sawyer was originally supposed to be an aggressive Wall Street shark type scam artist, they re-wrote him to resemble Josh more when he was given the role.

That's correct. Matthew's audition was great and he obviously impressed them so much that they wanted him for the lead, which was much better!

Yes, Matthew was auditioning using the "original" description of Sawyer. Which a lot of people either forget or choose to forget

I guess it was OK back then because social media was still very much in its infancy and a lot more controllable. Plus, on PO5, he wasn't subjected to high levels of resentment and jealousy from various factions as happened on Lost.
