BORSOS COMPETITION FOR BEST CANADIAN FEATURE

The Whistler Film Festival is pleased to announce the six films that will compete in the 11th annual Borsos Competition for Best Canadian Feature Film presented by the Directors Guild of Canada - British Columbia for a cash prize of $15,000, the second largest cash film festival prize for a Canadian film in the country. WFF also recognizes the Best Performance in a Borsos Film, won by Tatiana Maslany for the past two consecutive years for her performance in Jason Priestley's CAS & DYLAN (2013) and Kate Melville's PICTURE DAY (2012).

New for 2014, the Whistler Film Festival has introduced two inaugural awards for the Borsos Competition including Best Direction and Best Screenplay of a Borsos Film. Additionally, a $15,000 Post Production Prize from Encore Vancouver will be presented to the winning Borsos title for Best Canadian Feature.

Launched in 2004 in honor of legendary Canadian filmmaker Phillip Borsos, the Borsos Competition for Best Canadian Feature Film celebrates independent vision, original directorial style and the diversity of talent found in Canadian film. For the past ten years, the Borsos Competition entries have exuded the creative fire and artistry embodied by filmmaker Phillip Borsos who was known for his inspiring work on the Genie Award-winning films THE GREY FOX (1982), and BETHUNE: THE MAKING OF A HERO (1990).

To compete in the Borsos Competition, films must be at least Western Canadian premieres. An esteemed international jury of three will announce the winner at the Whistler Film Festival’s awards ceremony on Sunday, December 7, 2014 at the Whistler Conference Centre. Past jury presidents include Luc Déry, Martin Katz, Bruce Greenwood, Ivan Reitman, Donald Sutherland, Atom Egoyan, Norman Jewison and Robert Lantos. This year's jury members will be announced in November. The 2013 Borsos Competition winner was Bruce McDonald's THE HUSBAND.

The following six films will compete in the esteemed Borsos Competition for Best Canadian Feature and directors will be in attendance:
