October Book Club Nominations

This is October: Autumn is in full-swing and Hallowe'en is on it's way! So please keep this in mind this time for your nominations

You know the drill, stand-alone books or a first in the series

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

Quote:
A mysterious island.

An abandoned orphanage.

A strange collection of very curious photographs.

It all waits to be discovered in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, an unforgettable novel that mixes fiction and photography in a thrilling reading experience. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

A spine-tingling fantasy illustrated with haunting vintage photography, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children will delight adults, teens, and anyone who relishes an adventure in the shadows.

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
After the grisly murder of his entire family, a toddler wanders into a graveyard where the ghosts and other supernatural residents agree to raise him as one of their own.

Nobody Owens, known to his friends as Bod, is a normal boy. He would be completely normal if he didn't live in a sprawling graveyard, being raised and educated by ghosts, with a solitary guardian who belongs to neither the world of the living nor of the dead. There are dangers and adventures in the graveyard for a boy. But if Bod leaves the graveyard, then he will come under attack from the man Jack—who has already killed Bod's family . . .

I'm sorry never participate in the nominations and discussions, but I'm hardly ever able to get my hands on the books / read them when the discussion is going on. The Neil Gaiman book seems amazing and a great pick though!!

I'll try and read that one even if it won't be in october

BTW - Not sure exactly which award is mentioned on the cover, but I got this info from wikipedia: "The Graveyard Book won the 2009 Hugo Award for Best Novel, Newbery Medal, and Locus Award for Best Young Adult novel, as well as the 2010 Carnegie Medal. It is the first novel to win both the Carnegie and Newbery medals and was also shortlisted for numerous others, making it one of the most honoured children's works in recent history"

Any more noms? If there aren't anymore today, we'll just have to commence voting regardless.

I'm kind of disappointed we didn't get the kid's version of TGB, it's actually the adult version that came over.

We welcome the votes regardless but it would be nice if we were all able to read the chosen books. (That said I'm only reading the books I would want to read and read them in a time-frame that works for me )

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs - 1
The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

Both books are on my TBR list and I'd be fine with reading either, so I'll hold off on my vote.
