Ouch, I posted that here instead to Dylan/Toni thread It's not even S5.

Clare/David are probably the couple I liked the least on the show, along with Donna/Noah. They felt so boring and random to me. Most likely show creators did not know what to do with their characters so they paired them up - mainly to keep David's connection to the beach apartment and to show he was still into Donna.

I guess with the other couples, especially popular ones, the audience liked them because we got to see intimate scenes of confiding into each other and helping each other with some big drama. I do not remember Clare and David sharing one single scene like that.

On the other hand, that probably makes them the most normal college couple. No crazy drama, just having fun with each other. But it did not make them interesting.

I wonder why they did not keep John Sears for S5. Some other S4 characters were sticking around. Imagine him and Valerie scheming together. And they would have!

It would have been interesting had they gone for having a regular male villain on the show. It seems like they never considered that option.
