Well, it depend on what you mean by independent, I guess. I would not call any of them independent, because they did not work and they lived solely from their parents' money. I am not sure how they would organize their lives without it. Whenever Dylan stayed out of the money (briefly in S2 and for a big part of S5) he turned to alcohol. So much for the independence.

You right i was thinking about that too.

But Kelly at least had her mother before she started doing drugs.
Dylan was basically abandoned.

Always found it odd that by season 3 he was happy to see his father but was mad living withhis mother and was hard to make peace with her.

He went from disliking his father to basically hero worship him by season 3.
Here we are discussing things like this.

No, I don't think so. Maybe that could be discussed in the gang thread. Although I guess it is fine in seasonal or the other threads, but it's not very apt in Brenda/Shannen's

So I'll just answer some points and move on.

Well the writing changed, but also, it did make sense. I think he would make peace with him in any case, he already did that in S2. It did make sense he would go to idealization of the prodigal father, especially after his death. Unfortunately, it also makes sense for a son to crave for respect and approval of the parent who rejected him.

Besides, Dylan apparently did spend more time with Jack than with Iris while growing up. Jack was quite absent, but not always equally, but Iris was absolutely absent.

This discussion can be transferred to Dylan's thread, there is a solution.
