If we are honest, if it wasn't because he brought her name constantly and wanting her on the show, none of them would be on the tribute. Not even those he was close friends with.

It's interesting because all things considered in terms of how things panned out in the original - for better or worse - I'm sure Dylan/Kelly shippers will have felt a little sad over Jennie not being asked to appear. (I won't elaborate further than that, to refrain from ruffling feathers.)

Having said that, having Shannen being the one to play that role on Riverdale is a connection back to Dylan's first romantic link on the original 90210 and I

Really don't know how the shippers felt hahaha...
They could have been even mad about and I wouldn't Doubt it,because after the whole Rewind thing they start saying that he only said it because he felt sorry for her. He went through the same thing so doubt he felt pettiness towards her.
Doubt that Shannen would worry about those things and make her feel better, seeing that she barely want anything to do with 90210.

But I think they would have done it without having any of them. By asking Shannen it was a way to full fill his wishes and that her being part of the iconic couple that they were was just the top.

If they had in mind asking any of his other friends they would have said it Ibelieve.

I don't think this is about shipping really otherwise they wouldn't have made Brenda's character a stranger to Fred; any link to Brenda and Dylan is, I think, unintentional by the producers of Riverdale. If Luke and Shannen hadn't had a personal relationship, if they hadn't been extremely close, I don't think this would have happened. I have no doubt Luke was close to the other BH cast, but to what degree? Riverdale's creator went out of his way to ask Shannen to be part of this; I don't think, if she were out of the way, that he would have done that with anyone else. Shannen's part could have been played by anyone - it just happens that her connection to Luke made it extremely emotional and added depth to the situation.
