Bumping the Critics’ Choice Award nominations to this page:

Best Actor

Ryan Gosling, “Drive”
Leonardo DiCaprio, “J. Edgar”
Jean Dujardin, “The Artist”
Michael Fassbender, “Shame”
Brad Pitt, “Moneyball”
George Clooney, “The Descendants”
I love that Ryan and Leo are nominated together

The ceremony is being held on January 12. I love it if we get pics of those two together that day.

Golden Globe nominations are out:

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama
Leonardo DiCaprio for J. Edgar
Michael Fassbender for Shame
Brad Pitt for Moneyball
Ryan Gosling for The Ides of March
George Clooney for The Descendants

It seems like the 4 consistent names are:

Leo
Brad Pitt
Jean Dujardin
George Clooney

Which means it looks like there's only 1 spot left open for the Oscars. I'd personally give it to Ryan Gosling for Drive or possibly Michael Fassbender for Shame.

I really want both Leo and Ryan to be nominated this year but I seriously doubt that's gonna happen. I am glad that I don't have to worry about Michelle this year though. She seems to be a lock unlike last year.

Personally I wouldn't count Gary Oldman out of this race just yet. And I didn't realize that Jean Dujardin was getting that much buzz.
Leo better get an Oscar nom!! I'm so happy he got a Critics Choice, SAG and Golden Globe nomination

I haven't been really keeping up in who are the actors that have the best shot for an Oscar....in my mind I was thinking Leo...that this could really be his year...but is that not the case?

It was the case before J Edgar came out. Now it seems that every site is saying that this is George Clooney's year including this one.

Ugh George Clooney already won an Oscar My roommate saw both movies and said Leo was way better

Im surprised the movie/Clint isn't getting more attention....

That was for a supporting role which must have not been enough for him. I haven't seen The Descendants (and won't before it hits DVD) but I'm fairly sure that I will be under the opinion that Leo was way better too. Your friend has good taste. But currently a lot of the sites are picking him for the win.

Aside from negative attention directed at Clint this movie is getting none at all. Some sites are acting like Leo is barely going to be nominated

Dear Ted:
In your humble opinion, will Moneyball win Brad Pitt his Best Actor Oscar? I really loved the movie, but thought that Pitt and Jonah Hill were outstanding. —J

Dear Not Ballin' Enough:
Sorry, J, Brad Pitt may have been great in Moneyball, but my vote's going to George Clooney for the Oscar win. I thought he was brilliant in The Descendants and hey, it's nice to remember Clooney for something other than his love life.
No one is talking about Leo. I read one site that had Brad Pitt for the win and didn't mention Leo in the race at all which I found interesting because nearly every review of J Edgar praised Leo for his bold performance.

I'm happy for Leo's nominees but I'm sure that he's not the winner this year
I think the winner is George Clooney, maybe Leo can have some chance for Golden Globe but for Oscar I don't think he's nominated
This year is full of contenders...
George Clooney
Jean Dujardin
Michael Fassbender
Gary Oldman
Brad Pitt
Ryan Gosling and Leo..
I think the Oscar goes to George or Dujardin...
The Golden Globe is a possibility but don't forget that Clooney & Pitt are always loved by the Academy and critics who vote

And we can't forget that Leo is the only thng that critics save from J.Edgar

I understand this won't be his year, I just hope he gets nominated. It'll be an improvement from last year. Every site has him on the fence for that 5th spot.

If I were in charge Ryan Gosling would absolutely be one of the nominees for Drive.

Awards Daily ? Oscarwatch: Counting Down the Year’s Best Performances – Leonardo DiCaprio in J. Edgar
Quote:
The Best Actor race this year appears to be filled with likable heroes. The darker portrayals aren’t going to be embraced as much, for whatever reason. Perhaps in times of strife – economic and otherwise – the Oscar race forms around more soothing films. DiCaprio in J. Edgar is similar to Meryl Streep in The Iron Lady. Both Hoover and Margaret Thatcher were complex, not well liked people in real life. The trick to playing them, therefore, was to find and reveal their vulnerabilities.

...

While Streep is earning praise for having done a similar thing, DiCaprio, I feel, has not. I can’t speak to whether or not J. Edgar was an accurate portrayal of Hoover. Nor can I speak to whether DiCaprio ultimately captured him. But what I do know is that DiCaprio’s acting was deeply realized. He showed a side of him he’s never revealed before now.
