I do wonder how she and the commander got together... They seem to have grown apart on the show. __________________

Couldn't it be that they were married before all of this started?

I believe it's a must, in order to get a handmaid in the house.
Maybe something happened with the predecessor and it has to do with it too. __________________

Quote:
i believe the rationale behind it (as far as Atwood's book is concerned and the subtext there) is that even if its the man that is infertile, they would never acknowledge it as such - they are the 'superior' species... in their own perverted version of utopia and therefore are never at fault. the women serve one real purpose - to procreate, if they cant (unless they are already married to men of import, like serena was) or serve some other purpose, like becoming a Martha, then they get shipped off to the colonies to sort through toxic gunk and die (apparently ). So it very likely is him that is sterile
Spoiler:
Yvonne has spoken a lot about how this woman has been stripped of her voice, her words, her identity as a woman across the board (including things like you can only have sex for procreation... - since she is considered 'barren,' even though its likely him that is the issue, they no longer have an intimate relationship of any kind (something that we see she still wants (ie intimacy) in ep 4) and that they certainly shared pre gilead. I think what we will see in this next ep

haha we don't mind. We haven't read the book so we are guessing
If that's the case then I look forward to what is ahead of her on the show! I can't wait to see that tomorrow (or day after tomorrow for me ) Yeah he seemed to have a problem with her touching him in ep 4 when he couldn't get it done! __________________

Oh cool! We'll have to be on the look out for those interviews then! I didn't notice her on the talkshow list.. I do hope she gets to do that in the upcoming weeks!
