I know what you mean, but I think they did what they had to do by SPOILER killing Brody off. As I understand it the writers wanted to do it much earlier but the network wanted to keep him around for the third season. I think he and his family's story lines are what really slowed down the action in the third season. It seems almost like this season is a reboot in some ways.

I did think that they could find a good storyline for him after season 2, but with season 3 in mind it was clear that they ran out of ideas for Brody at the end of season 2

Agreed. Based on what I head, the initial plan for the character was to kill him off in the bunker at the end of the first season. That way everyone would know Carrie was right all along but it meant little because innocent (and not so innocent) people were still dead. But the network liked Brody and wanted to keep him around for longer so in the second season they had the plan for the CIA to realize that Carrie had been right, for her to arrest and interrogate Brody, turn him into a double agent, and have her feelings for him threaten her career (all of which happened). But they planned on Brody being killed in the bombing of the CIA at the end of the second season. But once again the network stepped in and wanted to keep him around... I think that's really where they ran into trouble. This was a character they'd envisioned for a season long arc and they'd already extended it for two. I think that was OK because his second season arc was compelling. I loved seeing Carrie realize that she was right all along, and arrest Brody, I loved the episode where she interrogated and turned him. I even liked that at the end of the season he was once again a threat to her career albeit in a different way but for third season I think they had other things they wanted to address and the Brody story line was holding that up. They tried to make it work by sending him out of the country but they still had his family members as major characters. Plus the only way that Carrie has a future career with the CIA is if he's out of the picture. I think this lets them return to what they'd initially envisioned for the show.

Claire's on the cover of the October issue of Harper's Bazaar UK

The article is available here . It's a [pretty good interview. Claire talks marriage, motherhood, Homeland, and even Meryl Streep has some nice things to say about her.
