New thread... I took the liberty of basically copying and pasting Gabrielle's excellent rec list from the last thread, removing the links that are no longer valid. If anyone wants to add to the list, let me know.
 Story Recommendations General – non’ship, multi-‘ship, or more adventure-based fics After the End - Sugar Quill Draco Dormiens/Draco Sinister/Draco Veritas - Cassandra Claire - Heartstopping adventure, lots of snarkiness, various people involved in romance and love-hate relationships. DD/DS are done, DV is in progress. H/H, D/Hr, D/G, other. Innocence Lost and Found and its sequel, Cyanide - Iniga Harry Potter and the Heir of Slytherin - Drummergirl Harry Potter and the Unknown Godmother - Sheli - Did you know that Harry had a godmother? Neither did he! Politically Correct Harry Potter - Short, but hilarious. Het fic Draco/Ginny The Past Didn't Go Anywhere - Fearthainn - D/G fic. Draco living as a muggle? Draco has created a life for himself that doesn't include anything from his past. They're grown up in this one. I like the characterization and the humor. Draco/Hermione Heart's Desire - Celeste Chang - D/Her fic. Harry, Ron, Hermione and Draco must work together to save the world. The idea that all four of them would be heirs of the Houses is a little contrived but it greatly improves from there. Love how all four of them interact on their journey and how the relationship of Draco and Hermione is being built up. Still waiting for that snog! Into the Dark - MidnightSun - In a tale of prophetic visions, untamable passion, sinister ploys, and a quest for immortality, a love unrivaled for centuries will arise. Above all, this is a story of two people who never knew how much they would need one another. Surfeit of Curses - Heidi - D/Her fic. After the end of the Triwizard Tournament Draco makes shocking discoveries about his family's past. The description in the later chapters *can* get a bit tedious but don't let that dissuade you from reading, it's definitely worth taking a look at! We'll Always Have Paris - Melissa - Hr/D. They go on an exchange program to Beauxbaton together. Harry/Hermione The Hermione Stories - Mena Baines - It's now finished - which, I don't think many people were expecting. H/H-centric. Love Is a Battlefield - Lissanne - Post-Hogwarts (11 years) and H/H, but otherwise completely different from PoU (below). A wonderful fic in its own right! WIP. Paradigm of Uncertainty (finished) and The Show That Never Ends (in-progress sequel, on same page) - Lori - Set roughly 7 years post-Hogwarts. Great adventure, emotions, and mystery. H/H Slash fic: Femslash Debutante - minx - Ginny/Hermione/Fleur love triangle. Cute. Rated PG and complete. Friends - Acua - Hermione/Ginny. Sweet, sweet, sweet. But in a good way. Rated R, and complete. Harry/Draco Catch My Fall - LdyLazarus Dreams of Enchantment - Mister Bear - Harry wakes up one morning to discover he's not actually a wizard, his parents are still alive, and Malfoy's his... BOYFRIEND?! Is this a bad dream, and if so, can he wake up? UNFINISHED Irresistible Poison - Rhysenn - An incredible backstory of how Harry and Draco might get together. The Losing Side - Antenora - Harry/Draco. Angsty, but great. Pride in Love - Amethyst Divergence - Draco/Harry - Draco has decided to end his life to regain his lost pride. Will Harry be able to teach him that there is more to life than pride? Protective Bonds - Sadie - (Harry/Draco. Hermione finds a book with an interesting protection spell - only it doesn't work quite the way they'd planned!) Resolution - Frances Potter - Harry/Draco. Angsty, but great. Sign, Symbol, Token - Pepperjack Candy - D/H fic. Snitch! - Al - London, 2003, and two old enemies have become partners in crime. But the wizarding world is out to disrupt Harry's none too peaceful existence ... sex, guns, rock n' roll, drugs and bad language abound in a fast paced romantic thriller. UNFINISHED Underwater Light - maya - Featuring an extremely depressed Harry, in a war-torn wizarding world, about to get the shock of his life when he discovers that Draco Malfoy is slightly more important to him than he would have ever guessed. Including a very odd friendship, lots of angst, suspicions, conflicted loyalties, clueless Ron, on-the-warpath Hermione and two very messed-up boys. Unfogging the Future - PepperjackCandy. A "Through the Looking Glass" type story; Harry/Draco Deny me not - Give me the cookies. Draco dumped Harry for a woman and it is tormenting Harry, who finds himself wanting nothing more than to get back to Draco. Last year on Hogwarts turned out to be pretty interesting for the trio... UNFINISHED Misc/multi slash Anything and everything by bec, but especially Easily and A Taste Of Honey. Her stuff tends to the NC-17, so read the warnings, etc. ::girly sigh:: I love the way she writes Seamus. Other Lily/MWPP (both het and slash) A Lily Story: The Alpha - Tabitha Jones - Chronicles Lily's first year at Hogwarts. Is the first in a series (Currently in progress - The Beta) marking all 7 years at Hogwarts, plus her and James' few adult years together. It Could Never Be Remus - RavenNat Percyfic (both het and slash) Catharsis - Percy fic, describing how he might have become the rigid person we see in canon. Sequels: Fallout and Unsuspecting Hearts (P/O slash in U.H.) Elsewhere - Kain - Mena Baines - this one is all about Percy, who I absolutely love. The fic is just...wonderful. Really. (P/P) Snapefic (both het and slash) "Darkness and Light" Trilogy -R.J. Anderson - They're great fics, centering around a wonderfully developed OC and Snape. Warning, there is a {Seventh-year and legal} student/teacher relationship, in case someone finds that a little weird. The Fire and the Rose - Abby and Domina - S/Her fic. Snape and Hermione exchange bodies after an accident during potions class. This story takes a common storyline and makes it original and witty. This *is* a fic that involves a teacher/student relationship, so if that squicks you, don't read it. Letter from Exile one Merciful Morning - Sphinx - S/Her fic. Lovely Snapefic. How can I describe this? A very well-done, sometimes humorous study of the human psyche is what comes to mind. It is Ron reading a letter that Snape wrote to Hermione so there is little action. It *is* about a teacher/student relationship so if that squicks you, don't read it. Pawn to Queen - Riley - S/Her fic. Snape and Hermione enter a type of partnership due to an incident with Lucius Malfoy. No, Hermione is *not* turning to the Dark Side. Well written, the characterization is good and the relationship between the two actually seems plausible. This *is* a fic that involves a teacher/student relationship, so if that squicks you, don't read it. Other A Sex Ed Lesson - Snape must teach sex ed. You all must know the rudiments of sexual intercourse by this point. It's as simple as assembling a portable cauldron. Thrust tab A into slot B and repeat as necessary. breathe - Fuyami - There's something in the air connecting Hermione to both her best friends. Colin Creevey and the Search for a Hero - minerva - CoS written entirely from Colin Creevey’s POV. Colin's life as a latchkey kid in a Liverpool slum takes a dramatic turn one day when an owl arrives bearing a mysterious letter. Colin can’t wait to get to Hogwarts! But how will he afford tuition? Dream On - morrigan - It's a fairtytale and it's connected to the Potterverse. Friendship - paranoidkitten - Cho remembers Cedric. Has mentions of slash. Mud - JKLB - Twelve year old James Potter invites Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew to be his houseguests. A character study of the four boys who will grow up to be the men who fascinate us so much. MWPP at twelve. No Easy Goodbyes - Mrs Weasley The Slytherin Kama Sutra - Angie Astravic - Sex education at Hogwarts: After Malfoy has a near fatal encounter with Dark magic, Professor McGonagall decides it has to be taught earlier ... by Professor Snape. Hi! I'm trying to get a friend to read some fan fiction, but he isn't interested in anything that's too "mushy." Can anyone recommend a fic that's good for someone new to the fandom that isn't excessively shippy or romantic?

DV gets past the shippiness. At least so far. I'm feeling it's heading towards H/D country, though. The first two are a total ship-fest.
"The Bloody Stare of Mars" wasn't terribly shippy. I mean, it was, but the ships were in support of the plot, not the point of it. __________________

I've lost some interest in the thread and was horribly neglectful.I'll have some 'recs soon. Especially some femslash 'recs because we are in desperate need of those. Sita* - I really enjoyed your story. It's well-written and quite an interesting idea because it takes place pre-Hogwarts. The little bit of incidental magic was described very well and has a very similar feel to the books themselves. I especially love the line “Dudley, you’ve got a nose!”
 And the way 'men with blue dresses' appeared.  __________________

FawkesRises - that's a really good story! Some really amazing writing in there and incredibly sad in the end. I don't think it's disjointed at all - certain phrases, although not connecting to the flow of the story in particular ways, lend it a lot of style. I especially like the line:
But it doesn't matter because even though his eyes were wide open, there was nothing behind them. Knock, knock, Potter's not home. __________________
