The season premiere had more viewers than any other episode this season , but the season premieres always do.

Exactly, many casual viewers watched it out of curiosity or just because of the buzz and ads about the return of the show. But Sawyer and Kate beated Locke and Eko, two of the more popular characters among the fanboys.

I wonder what will happen to the numbers in February? They have went down for the past 2 seasons ,when the show goes up against American Idol.

I don't know how people will react to the hiatus. Maybe the ones who didn't like the first mini-arc could not come back at all in February. American Idol is a "problem", but in the second half of S2 the messy stolynes were the biggest factor in alienating viewers, imo.

I have seen more negative posts , but I think people will come back hoping things get back to the island mysteries.

Some people will stop watching because Kate and Sawyer are now an official couple.

I make no secret the only thing holding me to the show is Sawyer and SKate. I am gone , if they break up and things look like they are going to kack.

I didn't watch Further Instructions or The Cost of Living and they were the lowest rated.

I'm sure the Skate relationship will have its bumps in the road... there is still the "Sana sex" in the air (although, they could have just decided to put it to rest forever, because it was a storyline the writers came up with at the last minute, imo), and when they will be back at the Losties camp, Kate will be worried about Jack and being the insecure man he is when it comes to feelings, Sawyer could have doubts about Kate really wanting him or not. And the good old Skate angst is a key element in their relationship, and will be back sooner or later because of some fights/misunderstandings. But I think S3 is going to be Skate til the end. Maybe ratings/fans' reactions will have a part on their future choices (S4 and S5), I don't know. I really hope the audience likes Sawyer and Kate as an official item, if the writers give them good scenes and development like in "I do".

I know things change , so even if they have bad things planned for Kate and Sawyer it might not happen.

There is something I didn't understand. With Alex telling Kate she wasn't supposed to be there, at the cages, and Benry commenting he would have bet on Kate wanting Jack, it seems like the original plan was to use Kate to convince Jack to do the operation. Once they picked up her feelings for Sawyer, they threatened him in order to scare Kate and make her pleading Jack. So, if Benry thought the stronger bond was the Jack/Kate one, why kidnapping Sawyer too?
