Since we're always looking for new things to talk about, I thought it might be fun to take a look at Jason's IMDb STARmeter score. This is something we've been tracking on another website for a while now. Even though the numbers aren't really all that meaningful in the scheme of things, it's been fun to follow the trends.

The STARmeter number is really just a measure of the "buzz" surrounding a personality or a project. The number is a ranking compared to other artists.

IMDb's description is:


Jason's STARmeter hit an all time "high" the week his Lie to Me appearance aired. (Actually, because it's a ranking, the lower the number the better the score.)

2010 Jun 13 -- #535 - Lie to Me: Beat the Devil


For point of reference, the best score he had during Moonlight's run was: 713, the week "Out of the Past" aired.

His highest during Veronica Mars was: 815, the week of 5/14/2006 when "Not Pictured" aired.

He hit 1540 the week his guest spot on CSI aired.


Here's is a snapshot of the last five weeks:

2011 Nov 6 -- 2,548

2011 Oct 30 -- 2,545

2011 Oct 23 -- 1,501 (first appearance on Ringer)

2011 Oct 16 -- 2,671

2011 Oct 9 -- 3,641 (lowest position since April 2005 )


As I said, it's just a bit of fun to pass the time and to see what the "buzz" is. If there's interest, I can update this every Monday.

Thanks for bringing that over Lilly! I didn't know about that and it's definitely interesting and a bit of fun to look at if you wanted to bring it over every week.

IMDb still hasn't updated their STARmeter numbers this week.

Generally, they're up by 10am Monday mornings, but very occasionally, there's a delay. It's particularly frustrating this week, because I'm expecting a nice bump from all the Supernatural publicity. NINE news articles have been added to Jason's IMDb page referencing his casting in SPN, so presumably they would have generated a lot of searches this past week.

Well, after an epic wait for the numbers... he's up 44 points.

Nowhere near what I expected considering the press but definitely something to be thankful for.

That's still pretty good. I'm just glad that he's getting more work and that casting directors are noticing him. Hopefully all of his guest starring work could pay off with him landing a lead role down the line.

It's all a bit of a mystery. More searches = better ranking. But what drives those searches is complex mixture of things, I guess. Getting arrested is almost guaranteed to send an individual right up the chart -- but NO actor wants that kind of push. It's all about getting noticed for the right reasons -- and Jason is definitely doing that.

I defintely want Jason to be noticed for his talent and not because he's involved in some scandal. I feel like he's been on some of their radars because of all the guest starring work he's been getting which I have been thrilled about.

I'm at a complete loss to explain this...

I expected a bit of a drop off for the week after the Supernatural buzz -- a week with no Ringer episode airing either. But 719 points??

Again, the numbers only indicate the frequency of searches on IMDb, but I had hoped the curiosity would have persisted a bit more.

Hopefully its just becasue of it being the holidays and all. Hopefully the buzz will pick back up in the coming weeks due to him guesting on SPN and his role on Ringer.

You could look it as it's only IMDB and I know I generally only use IMDB to look up who a person I'm not sure of is. So maybe there's a drop because people already know who he is.
