I actually was kind of intrigued by Season 3 Ruby. Katie isn't the best actress around, but compared to the awfulness of Genevieve that came later, I changed idea about her.
I believe the main problem with Ruby is that the charater was further developed in Season 4, when it was Gen playing her and completely destroyed the character's potential. Ruby in season 4 was supposed to be a sneaky confusing character, who you hesitated to believe good or bad. But Gen as Ruby was just plain annoying and boring. I think that's not what Eric had envisioned and what the writers had in mind while writing her and that's a shame.

I believe all most of the hate is about Ruby being a bitch to Sam and stuff. But I haven't seen old Ruby's acting skill, so I won't judge Ruby in this way.

She is a bitch cause she annoys Dean and took drove Sam into the wrong path. That's enough for me.

If she had done something to my Cas... pff...

Though I di believe they are not gonna tie the series in a nice little bow either. I believe they could kill one brother...and it would probably be Sam. Maybe for redemption, you know? and there is the vessel thing.. I don't think they would kill Dean.

Can't they bring Ruby back to just kill her again?

Those are the reasons I hate her, the way sure turned Sam in to a heaping pile of stupid! And the wedge she drove between them.
