The Pod [Marty/Jeannie/Clyde/Doug] #3: They really get each other, in character and in real life.
The Pod Thread #2 This is the thread to discuss the the general relationship among 'The Pod' and the different relationships within 'The Pod' (ex: Marty/Jeannie, Clyde/Doug, Marty/Clyde, Jeannie/Clyde, Doug/Jeannie, Doug/Marty) on-screen and off-screen.  Marty/Jeannie/Clyde/Doug Marty Kaan  An extraordinary but unscrupulous management consultant, Marty is gifted at identifying, and exploiting, the weaknesses of clients to get them to sign on the dotted line. From textbook psychology mind-tricks to the fine art of bull****ting, Marty is a master at shilling undecipherable biz-school jargon and flattering corporate honchos. He is offensive, egotistical, narcissistic, womanizing, crafty, ruthless and very "un-PC," all of which make him very good at his job. But despite his brash and ruthless demeanor, he's a (reasonably) dedicated family man, and deep down inside you may start to suspect he actually has a heart. Jeannie Van Der Hooven  A bright up-and-coming member of Marty's team. Jeannie is talented, crafty, flirtatious and a little mysterious. She does everything she can to keep her personal life personal and avoids all advances from Marty and the other team members. She aspires to the high-end corporate life, with the top job and the rich, country club fiancé, but she's not above doing shots off a stripper's ass and getting down and dirty with a different guy in every city she visits. Clyde Oberholt  A young member of Marty's team and a major suck-up, Clyde is a lackadaisical consultant and a voracious womanizer. He pulls his weight at work, for sure, but he's completely preoccupied with bagging as many women as he can. He uses every weapon in his arsenal to attract them - his high profile job, his big salary, his charm, and his quick wit. He is the court jester of the team, always playing practicaljokes and trying to get dirt on his co-workers. Doug Guggenheim  A brilliant, Harvard-educated member of Marty's team, Doug is a quintessential math geek with mad analytical skills and a big ego surrounding them, but he's hopelessly inept in the dating department. Doug is ultimately sweet and romantic, but he is so shy that he's rarely able to close the deal. This results in constant ribbing from his teammates, and a regular high-stakes competition with Clyde on scoring with women that Doug always loses. Quotes Doug: "You know, it's like my econ professor at Harvard use to say to me, never examine the motive of the guys writing your check" Pod" *collective groan* Clyde: "We gotta trust daddy. When he comes in here, he's going to kill it." Jeannie: "Speak of the devil." Jeannie: "I would rather work at Arby's" Marty: "That can be arranged Jeannie-bean" Marty: "Stripper wife!" Doug: "Why am I high-fiving that?" Marty: "There's an eighty-seven percent likelihood that we're going to sleep together. Jeanie: "Hah wow grossly inaccurate" Marty: "So we should just get to know each other, avoid all the awkwardness like 'Can I use your toothbrush? Do you want pepper on that? Is your poop chute an option?'" Jeannie: "It’s so interesting, because when I look at you I honestly see, sometimes, like a decent-looking, intellegent, you know, employed if over-educated guy, and then… you open your mouth and the damage just spills right out." Don/Kristen/Ben/Josh   “For me, this show is really about the four of them together,” “It’s about watching Don and Kristen and Ben and Josh light up when they get to play scenes together.” - Matthew Carnahan What is it like working with Kristen Bell, Ben Schwartz and Josh Lawson? It’s definitely an eclectic cast. Great actors all of them, we have a lot of fun on this show. We improv a lot and tons of that stuff finds its way into the film cut which is great because whenever you’re in a situation like this, and you have a lot of people that can play off the work the writers are doing, it’s a real nice to have a fluent back and forth. We’re lucky to have a nice, cool, creative team. We also have a lot of guests that are coming on like Griffin Dunne, Gregg Germann and Richard Schiff. I’m happy they were able to put a lot of interesting people on the show. And the actor Josh Lawson is actually huge in Australia; he’s a newcomer here but a lot of people know him back in his hometown. - Don Cheadle Just as an aside, is Kristin Bell as hot in person? She's ****ing gorgeous. She's 5'1 and she's so funny, so sweet and so nice. She's just a beautiful little woman. - Ben Schwartz Actors on "Parks and Rec" are mostly comedians with improv backgrounds. What was it like working with Cheadle and Bell, who are best known for their dramatic roles? "House of Lies" also stars Josh Lawson, who is an improviser from Australia. He and I clicked so hard. And Don Cheadle is so intensely funny in real life that he is able to catch on to any little bit you do. If we improvise, he is as quick as all of us. The amazing thing about him is that he can be hilarious, and then in the next sentence, he can make you cry. Kristen is hilarious -- if you saw "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," she was great in it. In between takes, we would all just play with each other. Our rapport has become so fun, and we've [developed] a great shorthand. I've been very fortunate. The casts on "House of Lies" and "Parks and Rec" are amazing. - Ben Shwartz “He’s so talented. He’s a natural storyteller and he elevates all the material around him because that’s just what he does. He has an organic sense of story and he really helps the writing and the producing and it’s not just him,” she says. “If he’s a great actor he’s an even cooler person and I don’t think there’s a ton of people you can say that about. But, he’s a really genuine, grounded, nice, funny guy.” - Kristen Bell on Don Cheadle "I have a lot of sympathy for Don. Not that he hasn't been there a thousand times before. But I do my best to make sure he's hydrated, you know, little things like that. He's the big cat, we have to keep him healthy." - Kristen Bell The four of us, Kristen Bell, Don Cheadle, Josh Lawson. We got along incredibly well, we all kind of like forward to seeing each other at work and we play jokes on each other and we were able to do bits with each other in between takes and just keep each other laughing the whole time. A Clyde/Jeannie hook-up? I think Clyde would love that. Clyde would go nuts, I mean, it's Kristen Bell, how gorgeous is Kristen Bell? In Clyde's eyes, Jeannie is the ultimate hook-up because she's in the pod of them four people and everybody likes her and to hook-up with her would be like hooking up with Angelina Jolie or like the hottest woman you can think of." - Ben Schwartz “But I mean it’s a good show…especially if you like the chocolate cupcakes, cause that sweet Cheadle’s chocolate cupcakes are all over the show. And they’re beautiful buns you guys, they’re beautiful buns.” - Kristen Bell on Craig Ferguson Bell has already bonded with the cast, too — a perk that the movie star says will keep her coming back to TV. "The four of us met and immediately fell in love. A four-way love square hasn't even been done on Jersey Shore," she says of her castmates, which also include Ben Schwartz (Parks and Recreation) and Josh Lawson (Romantically Challenged). -Kristen Bell on Getting Dirty in House of Lies When I met these three guys, the four of us, I mean we felt like a tectonic shift in the plates. It was so perfect. Just the four of us fell in love. I adore those boys. We have so much fun working together, and the rapport you see is real. We're playing the characters, but I enjoy being on set with them every single minute that I'm there. They're so much fun to work with because they're such genuinely nice people, and they're all so talented. I mean I love it. I love that I'm in scenes with all four of them all the time. So our banter is really easy. Sometimes, you know, Josh and Ben will come up with cool bits that we do on the day. I hope I get to do it for a long time because I love them. - Kristen Bell Quote:
