1025/26- Don’t Let Me Get Me (Pt. 1 and Pt. 2)- Friday, October 8 at 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. ET (MuchMusic and TeenNick)

Quote:
After the disaster at Vegas Night, Degrassi is under the weight of a major discipline crackdown. New rules, new security, and a stiff new dress code. Alli welcomes the New School Order as just the fresh start she needed. But rumors about what happened in the boiler room are keeping her from moving on. When a mandatory self-esteem seminar with none other than Bianca pushes her over the edge, she risks her parents finding out... about everything. Meanwhile, Jenna's keeping her head down, hiding her pregnancy, and trying to make some headway on Next Teen Star. She's relying on a big win to make her life as a single mom easy, but good ol' fashioned musical talent doesn't seem to be cutting it. Could her baby bump actually be an asset in the competition? (TeenNick)

What in the world is Stephen Stohn tweeting about? Got to hand it to him, I turned on my TV before 6 to see if my tv listings were wrong.

Oh boy a larger variety of Snuggies! TeenNick commercials I haven't missed you.

Poor Alli.

This was probably one of my more favorite "premieres," A-Plot wise. The scene where Alli's house of cards came tumbling down was a great one and I was almost screaming for Snake not to show Alli's parents the file (and also, apparently she freaking forged her mom's signature to get the HPV shot back in season 9.) I also wanted to smack Mama and Daddy Bhandari. You cannot expect your kids not to act out if you hold them to high expectations and restrictions. Both Sav and Alli have been slowly been undermining them since they were on the show.

So Alli's gone from the show for awhile (IRL, Melinda is filming How To Be Indie) so I'm just wondering how they're going to bring her back to Degrassi unless the all-girls school setting is the spin-off they're planning.

Meh to Jenna's plot. I actually didn't hate it but I was meh towards it. I'm glad the Instant Star (not calling it The Next Teen Star) plot is over and done with so we don't get a repeat of Mia's unrealistic storyline. Oh and Jenna revealing her secret only to get voted off next episode? I actually said "womp womp" out loud.

This is a long & very opinionated post

Great episode! It was really frustrating sometimes, but it definitely got me thinking. I have strong opinions about it

First of all, there is nothing that angers me more than girls getting blamed (or blaming each other) for cheating/boyfriend stealing/etc. It happens in real life, and on pretty much every show. Girls are stupid, ****ty, they fight each other in hilarious teenage boy fantasy ways. KC doesn't want Clare anymore? Oh it must be the "Barbie doll's" fault. Our society is completely terrified of female sexuality (especially young women) - it's completely ridiculous. Just because you don't dress like Clare, doesn't make you a "bad" person. Girls should be able to be whoever they want to be without being called names. ugh it just makes me so angry how girls are doing this to each other. Whereas boys, who do the exact same thing, get away with it like it's nothing. It's all ~Bianca's fault. Throughout history there's always been an expectation on girls to be "good." But that's not always fair & realistic. Girls need to know that it's okay to make mistakes; that it's not shameful to be thinking about sex. Expectations on girls are way too high IMO and in Alli's case it just made it even worse.

Jenna plot - first of all I'm just happy that the storyline isn't about Next Teen Star anymore Now I think it's going to get a lot better. I love KC's Mom and I think it's interesting how she can relate to Jenna because she went through the same thing.

I have a problem with the way that teen moms are portrayed on TV nowadays. There was once a time when Degrassi was the only show to do a teen pregnancy storyline. But now it's everywhere - like it's normal or something. In some ways I feel like teen pregnancy is glamourized. Like "get pregnant and you can become famous." From reality shows to Dancing With the Stars contestants, teen pregnancy is almost becoming "cool." And, if you notice, I find that birth control/abortion is rarely discussed at all. There's like this underlying notion of Christianity that I don't find very realistic. It's important to teach girls about abstinence, but they should also be prepared to protect themselves. JMHO.

Well now that I've ranted about the world I will say that I LOVE how KC said not to call it his Dad's name. Because even though he hasn't come around yet, he still doesn't want to be like his Dad. That part was adorable. This whole issue of teen fathers and how much say they should/shouldn't have is really interesting to me.

I agree KC's mom was really great about it. She didn't flip out and she actually tried to bring them back to reality without lecturing or blaming. Very refreshing.

I have to admit, I was cheering for Alli during her fight with Bianca. I got annoyed with Drew's all "I'm a victim -- she threw herself at me" line. Reminding me of how KC always blames other people for his problems (remember, "Jenna made me cheat!" in season 9?). No wonder those two are friends.

I felt soooo bad for Alli this episode. It was a good sendoff for her hiatus. I was shocked how all her secrets came out. The scene with the file was heartbreaking. I really wished she could have competed with Adam and tenners on the science team.

Oh well..

I don't know how it is in Canada, but in America we got the Teen Moms from 16 and Pregnant/Teen Mom scoring tabloid covers. =/ And with America, we do get the ****-shaming underlying Christian message about all this stuff, but at least no one is openly calling these girls ****s.

I really enjoyed this episode a lot more than I thought I would! The A-plot was strong through both parts and the B-plot was better in the second half of the episode, I think. I'm also relieved to see a return to the two-plot formula. The pacing felt a lot more even to me and there was no time wasted on a C-plot for comedy relief (which they usually were).

I felt so bad for Alli... I've always had a soft spot for her no matter what she's done. I was pretty anxious throughout the episode because I wondered if the writers forgot that Sav and Alli are siblings, so I was very happy to see them have a couple bonding moments there. I loved Alli's revelation that Drew was to blame as much as Bianca and he didn't deserve her. I also liked the ending with Alli and Clare, although it did feel a little out of place considering their friendship had been neglected for most of the first 24 episodes. But it made sense given their history and I thought it was a really touching scene between them.

I can't really comment on the Alli/Bianca catfight; those have always been among my least favorite scenes and this was no exception. I'm not sure what I think about the self-esteem class and how only girls were required to go, mainly because it seems a bit strange to me that the school could be so blatantly sexist without any reason. I could see them wanting to have separate classes for the male and female students, but to have the boys do nothing at all? Why would Snake be okay with that? Nonetheless I actually really loved what was said during the class and I liked the instructor.

I liked the Jenna plot in the second episode because I'm SO relieved that the Next Teen Star thing is over. I'm shocked and amazed that Degrassi decided to go the realistic route for once. (Well, it would have been more realistic if she had never been on the show in the first place, but...) And it seemed very natural that KC's mom would want to help Jenna out even if KC doesn't want to be involved and they're no longer dating. It was really sweet scene since Jenna doesn't have her own mother for support. (By the way, Erin, I totally agree with your points about teen pregnancy being glamorized. It's disturbing. I really hope they discuss adoption at least as an option at some point.)

Oh and lastly, my girl Chantay was AWESOME in this episode! Love her!
