Possibly and Earl admitted to Wade that he hid behind a bottle when he lost Jacqueline and you could tell he didn't want that for Wade, which is why he told him that in 4x01. He could see how much his son loved Zoe and he knew he was miserable without her, which is why he encouraged him to go for it, even though he was scared. He didn't want to see Wade end up like he did. He knew Zoe was the one for his son. He knew it from the start.

Yeah that is one of my favorite Wade and Earl scenes because as many times as Earl has talked about Wade's relationship with Zoe, it was a real heart to heart between them. He knew for awhile how much Wade cared for Zoe but in that moment you could tell that Wade wanted to be with Zoe so badly , but he was just trying to pass it off like it was just that he and zoe didnt work as a couple because it was just that he was scared and putting so many walls up so his heart wouldnt get broken again.

yeah it was. It was great that Earl was able to get sober to be there for them in that moment. Wade and Zoe needed him there for that without being drunk. But I think he made the decision to really be there for them and get clean after the end of season 3.

And he finally found someone he wanted to be with after his wife...and while it is hard to move on, I think he needed to be happy.

yeah, he did. It was great to see that he changed because of it. Wade needed his father a part of his family now that he was starting a family of his own.

Awwww. It really did. Also Zoe's faith in Earl was great to see. She really believed in him and gave him the benefit of the doubt when no one else really did. She helped Wade and Earl's relationship get to a better place. Wade looked past the disappointment and started seeing what Zoe saw in Earl. It was great watching Earl change.

Yeah. That was one of the first scenes they had together. It was a good moment.

Zoe really saw Wade in a different light in that episode too.
