The Romantics [NH+2] #1264: "I realized that if I’m gonna live in the moment I just wanna live in it with you."
Nathan Scott was known for getting what he wanted. Anything he wanted. He had the looks, the athletic talent, the family name, the money, the popularity, the influence. He wasn’t afraid to use it. What more was there? But, he wasn’t fulfilled. Haley James was known for being unknown. She was the uniquely quirky intelligent bookworm, with no status, no major popularity, and seemingly no outward special talents. She had an upbringing and lifestyle that in no way paralleled Nathan’s. She lived life playing by the rules, and defining excellence by said rules. Yet, she wasn’t fulfilled. » romantics their love is m e m o r i e s » testimonials » fiction Undo Me by Dawn

Agree. Also, now, that I'm rewatching it, I find Jamie a little annoying. Well, not annoying, per se, just not compelling. I mean, some of his scenes in the beginning, with Brooke were cute, but I think the show would have been better if they kept the Brooke pregnancy storyline, and explored the Naley relationship some other way. I mean, ideally by not marrying them in high school, to begin with, and seriously not having Haley get pregnant her senior year.
I honestly wish they gave Haley a bit more struggle and things to work through as a teenager. I mean, the girl gets married at 16, goes on tour the following year, misses so much schoolwork, is pregnant her senior year, and somehow still winds up Valedictorian and getting accepted into all her top schools, including her dream school, Stanford. I mean, the teen pregnancy is struggle, and getting hit by a car while pregnant is struggle, but even that is kind of swept up in privilege. She and Nathan move back into his parents' big house. They still have a support system. She still accomplishes all her academic goals. I mean, in reality, the gravity of being pregnant as a teenager wasn't even explored. I don't know. Maybe, I'm not articulating this properly. But, if they were going to forego the abortion storyline, then, they really should have taken the opportunity to explore pregnancy, which is heavy at any age, especially if one is still in high school. It didn't seem to affect her at all. What really affected her family, was Nathan getting injured and the aftermath during the jump. I'm rambling. Ideally, Naley wouldn't have gotten married and pregnant so soon. It would have been more interesting for Brooke to be pregnant and to explore that storyline of abortion or adoption or something. __________________

Kind of annoying if it was shifted from Brooke, where it made more sense, to Haley.

I agree with Jamie not being compelling. He was cute in S5 but that fast got boring, to be frank. I definitely think writers should give NH some other storyline. Sometimes I think, what if they never could have kids...? I think it would be very compelling and interesting story to tell... long term couple trying to navigate their marriage, when they can't have kids. It's always interesting to me when I meet couples that I know try to have kids for many years, how it is for them and how it affects their love?
Oh, Haley did definitely handled her life very easily. Someone would think a normal person couldn't do it all! I think Mark was just never that interested in Haley's character to ever give her some real struggles, that any person would have in her place. He got better in S7, but it was too little too late for me... __________________

Jamie was at his best in season 5 because he was written to be a kid that season for the most part, but after that he was written like a 25 year old stuck in a 6 year's old body after that.
Think the plan for Brooke was for her to abort the baby from memory, which is why the network said no. Most characters should have more realistic struggles imo |
