This was the last job I did before the world went into lockdown. And it holds a very dear place in my heart ....for a lot of reasons.
But let’s go back to late October, when I was sitting around with my birthday twin @tara_shafer , contemplating what we were gonna do for our birthday this year. “Let’s go to Savannah” I said. “I’ve never been!”
Two days later, my phone rang with an offer to go to Savannah to work on a new show! Kismet!
I haven’t auditioned in years cause A) I’m terrible at it. And B) if I’m gonna be away from my kids, it’s gotta be with people I know and trust. But when I was sent the script I saw that @joanrater and @tvphelan were in charge! Bingo! I knew them from @greysabc and they were LOVELY to work with!
Then I read the script. Good God, y’all. You know I’ve been fighting the good fight for diversity and inclusion. I’d had a public falling out with a company that didn’t believe in those principals. And here was a project that embodied everything I was begging for. This show is a warm hug to EVERYONE. It is family for EVERYONE. These writers are solid gold.
The first cast member I befriended down there was @kevindaniels27 . I had been hearing about Kevy D from @jeffreydeanmorgan for a decade. They’ve been friends for AGES (see last picture), and he is every bit as fun as Jeff said he’d be. We became attached at the hip pretty quickly and the only thing that trumps Kevin’s big heart is his insane talent. (Juilliard, bitches!!!) The next new-best-friend I made was my scene partner @clivestanden . It felt like I’d known this guy forever. Clive is kind and outgoing in a way that is sincere and rare. Such a generous spirit and so so so fun to act with. These two became my tribe, as evidenced by the fact that they went on a ghost tour with me and didn’t complain once!
Now when people truly love each other off screen, it makes what’s on-screen really special. So I’m gonna keep posting pictures from the behind the scenes lovefest.
