At least that way, we could have imagined an alternate ending where Ryan and Marissa DID eventually get back together. But no, they killed her off and the option for a potentially happy future was completely taken away.

I don't understand why they think fans (many of whom were probably young) would have been satisfied with the dark route they take Marissa (and the show) down in Season 3. It was already depressing enough with the "Ryan's brother tries to rape Marissa and she shoots him to save Ryan" story arc.

I don't get it either and it's not an surprise that the ratings dropped a lot because of it.

Killing Marissa off was the biggest mistake the show runners made imo. I always wished the show ended with Ryan & Marissa getting married and Ryan buying the model home from season 1 for them to live and start a family in.

I liked the dark route they took Marissa in but wish they handled it a bit differently. It just really sucks that when Marissa was becoming herself again and getting her life together they killed her off.
