GOOD NEWS, BAD NEWS — As Damon’s (Ian Somerhalder) behavior escalates from destructive to deadly, Stefan (Paul Wesley) begins to regret their last conversation and decides to track Damon down and intervene. For reasons of her own, Elena (Nina Dobrev) volunteers to come along. Dr. Wes (guest star Rick Cosnett) enlists the Travelers to set a trap that will once again test Damon’s friendship with Enzo (guest star Michael Malarkey). After a heart-to-heart talk with Nadia (guest star Olga Fonda), Matt (Zach Roerig) enlists Caroline (Candice Accola) and Tyler’s (Michael Trevino) help to protect Elena, leading to a violent confrontation. Later, when Stefan tries to comfort a dejected Caroline, their conversation leads to a horrifying realization. Michael Allowitz directed the episode.

FLASHBACKS TO NADIA’S SEARCH FOR KATHERINE — While Nadia (guest star Olga Fonda) remembers her centuries-long search for her mother, Stefan (Paul Wesley), Caroline (Candice Accola) and Matt (Zach Roerig) come up with a desperate new plan to save Elena’s (Nina Dobrev) life. For the second time, Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) must turn to Liv (guest star Penelope Mitchell) for help. Damon baits Tyler (Michael Trevino) into a nasty confrontation, then takes off to seek revenge on Dr. Wes (guest star Rick Cosnett). Caroline and Tyler come to a new understanding. Finally, Bonnie learns of a terrifying secret that will threaten the lives of all her friends. The episode was directed by Lance Anderson.

Elena will dump Damon just in time for her love for Stefan to resurface but he starts macking on Caroline. And then he'll dump Caroline next season for Elena. And then Stelena part 15 begins.

I'm actually thinking that it will be a mutual thing between DE breakup. For him he won't want to hurt her since he can't seem to control the ripper thing yet and for her it's gonna be about "well I certainly have changed into a worse person with Damon". Next season we will finally see Defan love and Elena will be single for maybe 5 episodes.

I think the only reason DE have worked for so long now is because Elena changed so much. Now that she can no longer allow herself to defend his actions, they have no chance imo.

Damon will declare he needs to change in this year's season finale (full circle to him telling Elena he can't change in last year's) and then the writers can sell this triangle as not being over in numerous ways, one of them being that new doors open for DE once Damon ~changes. But I think DE is done in their current state.

So will everyone get their redemption arc now? And that basically means Elena and Damon.

When Elena comes back she will realize that Damon sucks and she should have never been with him in the first place. He hasn't changed and he is still the same immature, psychotic brat he's been since season one? She will realize that she twisted herself in a pretzel to be with him?

As for Damon, will he realize that he needs to grow a little and he will never be happy until he does?

I'm one who doesn't think Elena changed at all, except in the way she handles certain situations like Jesse. But Elena has always turned a blind eye to the Salvatores atrocities as long as they didn't affect her. She didn't gaf that Stefan was a ripper, she just hated that he didn't want her anymore.

Actually I believe this as well, but I was going with the common belief. I think she's actually the same self centered person she's been since about 6 episodes into Season One.

Yep.

Whether people agree or not that Elena's changed, the writers think so, which is the bottom line. On the show they're gonna treat it as her redemption.

For Damon, hell yeah. He can't be redeemed, idk why they're even gonna bother at this point.

For Elena, meh. I don't know if she really needs redemption based on how horrible everyone on this show is. But as far as making her likable, I think the writers should really take the focus off the triangle for a long time and have her focus on the brother she's forgotten exists and her friends. They need to give her a really good character arc imo, but we all know they are incapable of this so I don't think this is going to go so well lol.
