I think that the plan is to air the original six episodes from season one in January and then the episodes that were already filmed for S2 will be aired in March. They're still waiting around before continuing production due to TNT wanting to promote and get a fanbase but they seem hopeful that it will be picked up.

I've got to admit I've never watched an episode of Southland only bits and pieces, but I just watched a promo this morning and am actually excited that TNT picked it up! I have my DVR set for the premiere.
