I think Dan develops feelings around ep 6.

I think he lied to her and had the article about her already written from before but someone she gets it and it looks really bad for Dan.

I think he starts to fall for her, but Georginia convinces him to keep his eye on the prize and not let feelings get in the way. Dan probably does until he decides he loves her in episode 9. So, he tells himself that he won't post the article, and Serena finds it as he comes home to tell her how he feels. Typical scenario.

Why he got into metaphorical bed with Georgina still makes no sense. Has she actually helped him in any way? He could have done the vengeance thing on his own.

the writers just needed an excuse to have michelle in most of the episodes.

Then, what if Dan and Serena are both playing each other? Serena dates Dan to try and stop him from posting an article and Dan dates Serena to post an article.

ETA: Serena seems extremely concerned about her image. The fact that the sex tape came out probably makes her look worse. So, if she dates Dan she can ensure that the article about her will not be written.
