I'd certainly take it with a huge grain of salt ( though given what storylines ASP eventually gave us, I guess it's possible). I do believe that the very original plan was for Lorelai to end up with Chris since it's a pretty standard TV plot device. However, I think that if by season 4, ASP still wanted Lorelai to end up with Chris and Luke was just going to be a temporary fling she was pretty much insane. Besides, If ASP had any serious plans of having Lorelai end up with Chris, she would either have locked DS into a multiple season contract after season one or recast the actor. You don't spend seasons writing the character of Luke the way that you do and then have Lorelai bascially treat him like crap and running back to a guy who's been a flake for 20 years and who's only been in a handful of episodes and expect to keep your audience. Case in point: season 7.

Well, we almost got LL cheating on Jason and Nicole, because it was all so soon after their seperations.

And we pratically also got Lorelai ending up with Chris - he's the only one she married in the end ....

What we didn't get to really see was the beauty of LL finally, openly, entirely share a home and life. Even for one episode. Grrrr forever.


ETA - BTW, ASP mentioned that the studio/network wanted a spin off for Luke and she told them no way, you can't take Luke, he's the one Lorelai ends up with. Can't remember when and where I read that.

Yeah, well ASP may be insane, but surely she isn't completely stupid. I just can't see Chris ever being a viable option in her mind past season one. DS was never signed up for a multiple season contract, was never written in a way that would make the audience root for his character and at the same time Luke was written as a loveable guy. There's just no way that ASP would have seriously considered Lorelai ending up with Chris by season 4. And if she did? Well something tells me GG would have been cancelled during season 5 due to abyssmal ratings amid scathing reviews. The only way that Amy made Chris viable by the end of season 6 was destroying Luke's character and even then it was a very tough sell. Having Lorelai have a fling with Luke before tossing him over for Chris would have resulted in even more of a debacle than we got.....

you know what? On second thought, ASP was probably completely capable of doing this. Thank god for network exectives I say.

As much as ASP screwed up, I do give her the benefit of the doubt. I mean it's not like for 6 seasons, L&L accidentally became soul mates. It was written, and built up that way throughout the years, which is the very reason we loved and cared about them so much. They didn't just fall in our laps overnight. The reason for all of that is ASP (and DP), so I can never really find it in my heart to hate them, and I do believe if the WB/CW didn't again screw up, they would've led us to a happy place without compromising so much of the show. JMO

Now a quick question for people who are migrating. Are you all heading to the LL thread as a replacement to this thread?

I admit, they did make her look like she was the Crack Whore... maybe she would've fit in at the CW after all.

Amen to that. I know people are bitter about 7.22, but I'm just happy L/L ended in a good place. If ASP was still around, we'd be lucky if they were even speaking to each other by 7.22. JMO

I don't know, I think she had a plan just not the balls to so through with it so made these demands which she knew the studio would not go for (IMP the same happened with LG and AB but that's another story.)

I think she wanted the drama and would have had C&L date, maybe engaged but never married, then come mid season it would be OVER and by the end of Feb Sweeps L&L would have been back, maybe not to marry by seasons end but with more time on screen as a new couple. JMO maybe I give here too much credit LOL

Because of what ASP did to L/L last season, I have a really hard time trusting her.

One reason Amy left was because she didn't get 2 seasons out of the WB. I am taking that interview a couple pages back, to say that she didn't like how Gilmore Girls went. (I am very sure she meant Gilmore Girls towards the end about letting others come in a **** it up.) So i think she might have explored a relationship between Chris and Lorelai and maybe even to the point of engagement as Craig said but not marriage.

Also she did ask for 2 seasons, so pretty sure it would have turned out better than anything DR ever gave. She had her plan that why she wanted the two seasons and L/L would have been together at a better point, not 8:55.

Well IMO she would have talked L&A into S8 and would have gave them the heads upon her 2 year plan at the start of S7. JMO

I agree... I think LG/AB and most others for that matter had more faith in ASP at the end of season 6 than the fans did... I wish we could have seen her plan for the show through...
