^^ I'm more okay with a prequel than another remake of a classic.
Thanks for that Jen! |

Ugh. Why are Tom Holland and Timothee Chalamet fast becoming the new Michael Fassbender and Benedict Cumberbatch? Chosen for every new project ~just because~ (same thing with Jennifer Lawrence after Silver Linings Playbook came out)
Also, I'm not keen on the idea of a prequel. Every reboot tends to tarnish my memories of beloved originals. Even the Tim Burton one from 15 years ago was an utter disappointment. __________________

I know the 1970s original is pretty famous for derailing from the book but I think it can be forgiven due to its wonderful cast and one of the greatest lead performances I've ever seen, courtesy of Gene Wilder.
He was such a colorful character but also played it with hints of sinister perfection - I mean, that part where he started mumbling song lyrics and then lost his temper, and again near the end when he loses it in front of Charlie and Grandpa Joe These little moments elevated the movie in my opinion and really made it something more special than just a kids' fantasy movie. Wilder brought such a dark comedic element to it; every scene felt like he was cheekily winking to the camera/audience I really couldn't get into the Tim Burton one, and I'm usually a fan of his collaborations with Johnny Depp. It just felt devoid of emotion. __________________

^ Still speechless on how ridiculous that looks. But of course, Timothee's fans will act like it's Oscar worthy like they did with Little Women!
Anyway, just wanted to say that I think Gene Wilder gave one of the greatest cinematic performances of all time in the 1971 movie and his scenes with Roy Kinnear (who looked genuinely freaked out by him ) were HILARIOUS! __________________

I guess others share in our "no thanks" view of Chalamet's Wonka:
