Just because the comedy Ant Man films have failed artistically doesn't mean I think Hank Pym would have been good for a starting Avengers movie lineup. But I don't think we should debate this, because you've got too much emotionally invested in it.

I do. Just look at the list of Best Picture winners from the 70's, 80's, and 90's, and most if not all are films people remember.
Who remembers the ones from the last ten years? Spotlight? The Shape of Water? 12 Years A Slave? Moonlight? The Artist? The King's Speech? Is anyone gonna remember these movies ten or twenty years from now? TPBM gets tired of seeing me post what I'm watching? __________________

A lot of critics thought The Social Network should've won instead of The King's Speech, but I didn't see that or 12 Years A Slave, so I can't comment. But they don't seem to have the longevity of past Oscar winners. TPBM is tired of colds? __________________
