Yep.

Been reading a number of DC comics by now. No two ways about it, post-Crisis DC comics suck, even when they're by John Byrne. And the clever-clever-dark-and-gritty Batman that Frank Miller started up is just bull. John Byrne's Superman is flat and other Superman comics of the period are worse. And Wonder Woman comics of any period are not good -I was right in guessing that it was just Gal Gadot's excellent performance that made Wonder Woman good on the screen. Supergirl is a much better character in the comics, and of course they killed her off in the Crisis and kept her dead for 20 years. DC lost its magic after the Crisis. Many of the pre-Crisis comics were very primitive, but I find they ring true far more than the affected stuff DC has been doing since the Crisis. Pre-Crisis DC is the real DC, just like 20th century Marvel is the real Marvel.

Okay, sum1. I did like a lot of the Post-Crisis stuff, but I also did like the pre-Crisis stuff from the late 70's and early 80's.

sum1 01-19-2019 05:37 PM

The post-Crisis stuff has consistently disappointed me.

PhoenixRising 01-20-2019 03:29 PM

Well, I liked the Superman and Batman stuff. Some stuff irritated me at first, though. But like I said, perhaps just a soft reboot on certain things would've been better than some epic thing.

I find the post-crisis stuff artificial. Some people have described Byrne's Superman as overthought and I think that applies to post-Crisis DC in general.

i'm a big fan of Brie Larson, from Room, Short Term 12, and Scott Pilgrim and really like her take on Carol Danvers so far, in trailers and promo materials, hoping Cap Marvel is her next big hit! is it March 8th yet?! :woot:

sum1 01-21-2019 02:57 AM

I do have some hopes for Captain Marvel. The trailers look good.

cherrypie12345 01-21-2019 03:36 PM

I love Thor

PhoenixRising 01-21-2019 04:26 PM

sum1 also loves Thor, Clarice.

I haven't seen the trailers yet, sum1. I'm still angry at the MCU.

sum1 01-21-2019 04:51 PM

Thor is one of Marvel's better characters and the movie version is great.

PhoenixRising 01-22-2019 03:54 PM

Yeah, but I have no idea how much longer Hemsworth is gonna play him. :(

sum1 01-22-2019 04:54 PM

Probably not much longer. I expect the character to get killed off in the next Avengers film, along with Iron Man and Captain America.

I read Batman: The Killing Joke. Soulless, misogynistic load of affected posturing. They think that throwing in discussion of a few simple ideas qualifies as being intelligent, and the whole dark-and-gritty Batman thing is all about trying to shout "Look at us, these comics are for adults! We're so grown up!" Pathetic. They should try producing something with a heart for a change. The art in Killing Joke, by Brian Bolland, is technically accomplished, but cold and dead.

PhoenixRising 01-22-2019 05:33 PM

I don't think they're gonna kill them off, sum1. Kevin Feige has said that the characters will likely be recast, so Tony, Thor, and Steve aren't going anywhere. It makes no sense to kill off characters who are alive in the comics. They don't want a repeat of the Cyclops incident, remember?

I actually liked The Killing Joke, but I didn't like Barbara getting shot. That was the only part I disliked, and I think Alan Moore has since said he regretted doing that.

sum1 01-22-2019 05:57 PM

They're going to kill them off. A recast is many years down the road. This has been discussed widely for quite a while. Peopple have been talking for quite a while about which heroes are going to be killed off and about Disney's plans for a change in the MCU roster.

PhoenixRising 01-23-2019 03:32 PM

Well if they're going to recast then what's the point of killing them off? I haven't heard anything about killing anyone off. Chris Evans himself stated that Endgame might not be his last movie as Captain America. "Many years down the road" isn't that many. Five years? Eight? Ten? I don't think that people will be willing to wait a decade to see Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America on screen again. And if a recast down the road does happen, does that mean the MCU will be reset and the entire continuity restarted? I'll go by what Kevin Feige said originally, that recasting will happen and that these characters are essentially ageless in the comics, so that will probably be the case.
