Yeah. I've never heard of any movie that got nominated for an Oscar that didn't get a Golden Globe, SAG, or BAFTA nomination. It's pretty much guaranteed that Logan will not get anything. Dumb Hollywood politics.


I mean, Hugh Jackman didn't even get a Critics Choice nomination. At least Dafne and Patrick did, but Hugh couldn't even get that? Sheesh.

I never knew there as such a prejudice against Hugh until I heard about it from you. It's distressing.

I saw a couple of articles that suggested Hugh’s “niceness” makes people not take him seriously as an actor. This reminded me of your comment a few weeks ago that he’s likable and critics don’t like that. Further, I saw someone comment on a Golden Globes article that Hugh is fun to watch but doesn’t deserve awards because he excels in comic book movies and musicals, which are two genres she says are “a joke” compared to serious dramatic roles.

She seemed to know that but couldn’t bring herself to respect Logan because of the comic book component. It’s a frustrating bias some people have.

Well, comics haven't always done themselves favours in looking respectable, so I can understand that bias to an extent, but really 2018 is time to move past biases like that.

Critics do make incredibly uninformed comments relating to comic book stuff.

See, it's this kind of nonsense I despise. It's the reason why The Dark Knight got snubbed despite being one of the most critically acclaimed films of 2008, and why Logan hasn't been nearly as recognized as it should be.

The Oscar nominations were announced this morning. Logan got 1 nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay but got no other nominations. I'm still happy for James Mangold! Unfortunately, I saw a bunch of professional critics on twitter making fun of its nomination and saying it only got nominated because only 5 films with Adapted Screenplays were made last year. Even when it gets some recognition people don't want to give it credit.
