It's like Montreal.

You look up pictures of Montreal and you find really beautiful panoramic and characterful views, but no one I know lives in those.

That mall in Montreal is very much above ground (as you can tell from those massive windows showing the buildings on the opposite side of the street). But it's true that you can go from there and get to the metro without having to go outside. In that way, it is connected to the Montreal underground.
