That is so cool!! It's a smart way to get acclimated to a language! I would have never thought of doing that.

TV and books were crucial to my learning of English as well. Well, they solidified my notions of English at the time.

I read Letters to the Lost by Brigid Kemmerer this week and it was such a good book, one of the best I have read so far this year.

Oh. Hadn't heard of that 1. I am starting on Michael Isakoff & David Corn's Russian Roulette: The Inside Story of Putin's war on America and the election of Donald Trump.

So I'm currently reading "The Quick" by Lauren Owen

Plot:

In 1893 London, James Norbury takes up lodgings with a young man from the upper echelons of society and soon finds love where he least expected it. Then James suddenly disappears.
His sister Charlotte is determined to find out what happened. Charlotte is horrified at what she discovers, but love spurs on her efforts to save her brother from an unthinkable fate. Her quest leads both to the mysterious, centuries-old Aegolius Club, and to slums full of unforgettable characters. With them, readers are caught up in the breathtaking climax to an ancient battle being fought within a secret world hiding in plain sight, in the middle of the great city of London itself.

EDIT:

Made some icons:

Is it gay bashing? Like, does the brother fall in love with the landlord and then disappear because people would get killed for being gay in the 19th century and then the sister's horrified to find out that's why he died? Sounds ominous.

^^^ seems like it’s more of a secret society thing, but only 20 pages in. So I’ll let you know!

I’ve been all day and making icons!

They should make that clearer in the summary. It sounded like a gay murder thing to me.

I hope not, of course.

Vague or unclear book/movie summaries are just my pet peeve, that's all.

I know the feeling, but I also don't want too much given away in the summary either.

That makes sense.

It's also why I usually end up reading the end before I get to it, though. At some point, I want to get the sense of where I'm headed to know if I really want to spend the energy on getting there.

But, I realize, most people prefer being surprised.
