you know BD is the biggest of all the 4th books. Like over 700 pages, but for me it was so small. It could be like the Lord of the Rings (i dont like it and never read it). Like 1000 at least or more books

I think that BD could probably have been 200 pages shorter, if not more, than it was. A lot of it seemed like rambling and just chopped the story up even more. Also, if she took out every bit of dialogue that really was not pertinent to adding to the conversation or revealing anything about the characters out of her books, they would have been cut down dramatically.

Oh definitely. She could have taken it so many different ways but she didn't.

There is no doubt that BD could have been better. In fact, all the books could have been much better than they were. In the case of BD, though, it was all about structure, pacing, and overall development. There were half, unfinished sub-stories that had no place in the book as a whole, and they seemed to simply fill space. Had the editing and the writing been better, things probably would have been less cluttered and been more cohesive as a unit.

Someone I know is trying to read them and he's like its TOO hard. He read the first 100 pages and gave up. He said it was too dry. And I didn't disagree. But it had to get better to get people going, right?

Is this "he," the "he" that I think it is? The kind that probably works out more than he reads.

I think with any book, if you can't get into it in the first 20 or so pages, then the effort is probably a futile one. Though, if he's gotten to 100 pages, then why not just finish it because that's like...1/4 of the way through, right?

Wow, he can read? JK. I shouldn't be so mean. Seriously, tell him to just suck it up and finish. Maybe he'll get some pointers on how to treat a girl.

OMFG That's EXACTLY what I told him!! I told him to read it, absorb it and learn how to treat women. He just stared!

Here is what SM has to say about the movie Dear John:

Quote:
Finally, a movie recommendation: Dear John comes out Friday the fifth of February. Thanks to my cool friend Wyck (who many of you have seen in various Twilight Saga interviews, as he is one of the producers on our movies, and who is a producer on Dear John) I got to see this one early. I will confess, I cried. Also, I discovered Channing Tatum, who I’ve somehow missed until now. Likey. Lots. Amanda Seyfried is entrancing as always, and the chemistry (chemistry is always the crux of a movie for me) between them is lovely. Though the chemistry between Channing Tatum and Richard Jenkins (who plays his father) was my favorite part.

I trust her judgment in film marginally more than hers in literature. Still, I'm a sucker for a "man leaves his true love to go to war only to have her write him tragically beautiful love letters," so I might actually see it at some point.

I just like to see her give her advice. It's been quiet on her front.
