I think Leo should play the bisexual one since he already looks like it. Colin should be in the romance one. Hehe

I believe in both they'll be portrayed as bisexual. Luhrmann's, however, is supposedly going to focus on it more, while in Stone's it's just one of many facets.

! That was a good one! Owch. Poor Leo! Well, not really...

Colin would be good in a romance. I was just watching the Recruit today, when he pushes Layla (sp?) onto the bed and then just like tackles her. Whoo! Colin was very "roar".

I did find this little snippet:
The full article is here..
Everything Ancient is New Again

but here's the "Alexander" snippet...
Quote:
Moritz Borman, the head of Intermedia Films, which is producing "Alexander, " says writer-director Stone had been working on and off for 10 years on a script that would do justice to the complex conqueror's life and times. The project got the green light only last year.

"Nobody was jumping at things like Alexander the Great five years ago," Borman says. " 'Gladiator' came out and worked really well, and everybody in Hollywood who saw it said, 'Whoa, maybe we should go back and make these kind of pictures.' "

In the case of "Alexander," Stone finally completed a satisfying screenplay and asked Farrell to do a screen test last summer, while the Irish actor was filming "Daredevil." "It might not seem that Colin is somebody you'd immediately think of as Alexander the Great," Borman says, "but Colin did a fantastic screen test. I was blown away by his intensity."

Casting "antiquity" movies with actors who can pull in young fans is especially important because period films, like last year's "The Four Feathers, " traditionally fall flat with younger audiences, says Paul Dergarabedian, president of Exhibitor Relations, which tracks box-office trends.

"The perception is that younger moviegoers stay away from historical dramas.

But if you have a period piece that on the surface would appear to alienate younger people, and then you plug in a star who appeals to a younger audience, then you've got something," says Dergarabedian. "You can take a Vin Diesel, a Brad Pitt, a Colin Farrell, and all of a sudden these pictures become more relevant to younger moviegoers. It's a good formula."

Rumour that Angelina Jolie has signed on to play Alexanders mother Olympias. Another possible is Jonathan Rhys Myers.

Yup it was just confirmed for Angelina Jolie..

Angelina Jolie to take on classical role as Alexander the Great's mum
Tue Jul 22, 7:23 PM ET Add U.S. National - AFP to My Yahoo!

LOS ANGELES (AFP) - US movie star Angelina Jolie will play the unlikely role of heart-throb Colin Farrell's mother in a screen version of the life of Macedonian hero Alexander the Great, the industry press said Tuesday.

Controversial Jolie, 28, has signed on to take the role of the classical conqueror's mother, Olympias, in Oliver Stone's epic production "Alexander," one of two competing movies on the same subject, Daily Variety said.

Jolie, who is poised to hit US screens with her reprise of her "Lara Croft" action-adventure role, will play Alexander's mum from his childhood until he becomes king.

Jolie will shoot her scenes in Morocco and London in the autumn, Variety said, while Moroccan media also reported that Stone's movie would be filmed there.

Producers Warner Bros. could not confirm the location of the movie that goes head to head with another film about Alexander, shooting of which was pulled out of Morocco following terror attacks there in May.

That version, which is as yet un-named, is to be directed by Australian Baz Luhrmann and will star Nicole Kidman as Olympias and "Titanic" star Leonardo DiCaprio as Alexander.

It is due to begin shooting imminently in either Australia or Morocco as the producers, who have been scouting locations in the Australian outback, make a final decision which may yet see the production return to Morocco.

Luhrmann and co-producer Dino de Laurentiis had said they would shift filming out of Morocco following terrorist bomb attacks in Casablanca in May.

Following her turn in Alexander, Jolie is set to take on the role of another historic figure, that of Catherine the Great, in "Love and Honor," a new Walt Disney film set to start production in Russia early next year.

Was lurking and thought I'd post this...

Jared Leto Joining Oliver Stone's Alexander Source: Variety Wednesday, July 30, 2003

Jared Leto (Panic Room) will co-star in the Oliver Stone-directed Alexander, for Intermedia and Warner Bros.

Leto will play Hephaistion, Alexander's top general and his lifelong companion.

Leto's role touches on one of the more sensitive plot points of both Intermedia's film and the rival saga being mounted by Baz Luhrmann and Dino De Laurentiis for Universal and DreamWorks: the conqueror's wide-ranging sexual interests.

Colin Farrell stars as Alexander, with Angelina Jolie as his mother and Anthony Hopkins as the general and future pharaoh Ptolemy.
