It seems that most people at this board have not really gone beyond the TV series, but I've read various new and classic Doctor books and listened to all the audios I could get my hands on. Generally, I go for the Seventh Doctor stories first.
Which is why, when I found out that there were ebooks on the BBC Doctor Who website, I first read through the Seventh Doctor books there, one of which happened to be Human Nature. I actually read it a year or more before it was turned into an ep of the new series (during S3, they took the Human Nature ebook offline until the episode aired). So I had the very odd experience of watching a Seventh Doctor story played out by the Tenth Doctor. Although I don't find much in common between Seven and Ten, I thought the John Smith character in the TV series was almost exactly how I pictured the John Smith character from the book, the main difference being that book John Smith was older. I found I could easily picture McCoy in Tennant's place during that ep. __________________

Tracking down Classic Who takes a little more time than New Who series but I do think that if alot of people would enjoy it if they went out of their way to find it. There are so many similarities to the New Who Doctors to incarnations 1 - 7.
Human Nature was a really good story. I liked it alot, but though I new it was based on a novel I hadn't then and still haven't had a chance to read/listen to it. __________________

Hey, lovely to see some love for 7 on here. He was the Doctor I grew up with, and while I probably prefer good ol' Tom now, still love him and Sophie as Ace, and his era. His last season is probably my all time favourite. Magical stuff.

It's been a rumour for a while now, but McCoy confirmed recently that he'll be in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit movies as wizard Radagast the Brown:

I think some of his best moments came when he was double-bluffing. For instance, from The Happiness Patrol:
Sniper David S: Get back. Or he'll use the gun. The Doctor: Yes, I imagine he will. You like guns, don't you? Sniper Alex S: This is a specialised weapon. It's designed for roof duty. Designed for long range. I've never used one up close before. Sniper David S: Let him go. Sniper Alex S: No. The Doctor: No. In fact... let him come a little closer. Sniper Alex S: Stay where you are. The Doctor: Why? Scared? Why should you be scared? You're the one with the gun. Sniper Alex S: That's right. The Doctor: And you like guns, don't you? Sniper David S: He'll kill you. The Doctor: Of course he will. That's what guns are for. Pull a trigger. End a life. Simple, isn't it? Sniper Alex S: Yes. The Doctor: Makes sense, doesn't it? Sniper Alex S: Yes. The Doctor: A life, killing life. Sniper David S: Who are you? The Doctor: [to David S] Shut up. [back to Alex S] The Doctor: Why don't you do it then? Look me in the eye. Pull the trigger. End my life. Sniper Alex S: No. The Doctor: Why not? Sniper Alex S: I can't. The Doctor: Why not? Sniper Alex S: I don't know. The Doctor: [takes the gun] You don't, do you? [to David S] The Doctor: Throw away your gun. Love that scene. I always imagined a deleted scene from the TV Movie. Where he goes to the gang- Pull the trigger, END MY LIFE! They all shoot him. Then cuts to him, lying on the ground, saying: Well thats a disapointment! __________________

Seven is so good, he talked a Dalek into blowing itself up in Remembrance of the Daleks
One of my favourite 7th Doctor speeches like this was from the audio play The Shadow of the Scourge: Quote:

Thats brilliant. Haven't got that audio but may need to get it just for that- such a 7th Doctor thing to say.

When I started buying Big Finish audios, I went for the Seventh Doctor and Ace plays first (I've collected the whole range with all the Doctors since). Shadow of the Scourge was one of the few which also included Bernice Summerfield.

See I never really looked at which Doctor it was- I always looked at the plot. Whichever looked a good story, I'd get.

Bringing this thread back up in honour of the Remembrance re-watch over the weekend.
I love the Seventh Doctor not just because of McCoy and his relationship with Ace, but I like what they did with the Doctor during his era. I think there are a lot of similarities between what they did with the Seventh Doctor, and what Moffat is doing with the Eleventh Doctor now. They both seem to be working towards a bigger plan that they don't tell their companions. __________________

I was in a McCoy mood even before Remembrance, I listened to Fearmonger last week, one of my favourite 7/Ace Big Finish stories. __________________

I quite like Ghost Light as well, another which I guess you don't like, like Fenric.
The story of Ghost Light is a bit convoluted (it is Marc Platt after all), and it took me several watches and a pass through the commentary to sort it all out. But it has a very interesting feel, and I really like the Doctor and Ace in the story. Gwendoline: I think Mr. Matthews is confused. Doctor: Never mind. I'll have him completely bewildered by the time I'm finished. Doctor: Let me guess. My theories appall you, my heresies outrage you, I never answer letters and you don't like my tie. Ace: Don't you have things you hate? Doctor: I can't stand burnt toast. I loathe bus stations. Terrible places. Full of lost luggage and lost souls ... And then there's unrequited love. And tyranny. And cruelty. ... We all have a universe of our own terrors to face. __________________
