If this is anything like The Five Doctors special, we’ll probably just see them as supporting characters in a bigger plot, with other returning Doctors and companions.
Just hope they don’t make this about the time war again. __________________

But if more people watch and realise they like Gatwa’s Doctor, they’ll stick around for his run.

^ I agree that way people will see how fantastic Gatwa is and stick around .. I mean having David there with Matt didn't take it away from Matt's presence __________________

Gatwa will most likely be the only Modern Doctor whose first appearance will not be in their predecessor's final story, which means that the 60th should have been focused on him primarily as an introductory story first and a celebratory milestone story second, which could have been accomplished by bringing back characters who would not overshadow him with their presence in the story.
By bringing in Ten and Donna - characters who will overshadow him simply by being present regardless of the size of their role in the story - the BBC has all but guaranteed that Gatwa's Fourteenth Doctor will immediately be starting off on the back foot in terms of audiences caring about him. __________________

RTD wouldn’t just make the special about past incarnations. Gatwa is the Doctor he chose to take over full time. So hopefully he’ll be able to do his debut justice, while also celebrating the 60th.

Ten and Donna could be in the story of the 60th Anniversary Special for two seconds, and they would still overshadow Gatwa's debut as the Fourteenth Doctor because the characters are played by David Tennant and Catherine Tate.

Well, what did you expect? Anniversary specials are traditionally multi-Doctor stories.
It would be better if we could have a whole season of Ncuti as the new Doctor before the 60th. But this is what the BBC have chosen to do. It is what it is. __________________

My issue is specifically with the inclusion of David Tennant and Catherine Tate because of their popularity as actors and the popularity of their characters.

I simply do not want guest characters/actors in the 60th Anniversary Special who will overshadow the Fourteenth Doctor solely by being present. This applies to Tennant and Tate, and it applies to Tom Baker. I don't know whether or not it would also apply to Matt Smith because I do not know how popular he is/was specifically with regards to his role as the Eleventh Doctor. __________________

See I get that and I agree I honestly wished he had more episodes on his own before the special

I kind of agree with DigificWriter, though I am NOT a fan of Tennant and Tate. This just seems like a bit.... well, and odd thing to do. It's one thing if a new Doctor wasn't going to take over next year.
And I daresay that Smith was more popular than Tennant, as it was during the Smith era, that the shows popularity went global, not just in the UK. Why bring back any past Doctor at this point, while trying to launch the new Doctor? It doesn't make sense. I don't even know if I will like Gatwa as the Doctor, but he at least deserves to have 2023 clear of any other Doctor, to give him the spotlight. |

Hope this new girl is Fourteen’s first companion.
Her name is Rose. So fans are speculating right now that she might be Donna’s daughter. __________________
