That was very prescient of you. IIRC he was offered the part, but couldn't do it as he was booked on another project which then didn't go ahead. But it was too late by then to be in Who.

One other thing about the episode that seemed odd - why would Davros's messenger snake guy refer to him as a "dark lord" as Davros wouldn't see himself as that? He's meant to be Himmler - part of the reason he can't be negotiated with is that he's convinced he's in the right.

Too late or not, they should have got him. Heck, even if it was a week before they aired the episode I'd have got him in! He'd have been just too perfect.

Missy is clearly insane. But so was John Simm's master. At least Moffat's writing is consistent with RTD's.

Does Missy still hear those old drums inside her head? Moff seems to think so, as he said in DWM.
So, a new season of Doctor Who is underway! And they are doing some exciting things with the Doctor and Davros already! Years ago, this kind of story would have been pushed back to season's end. Makes me wonder what other goodies we have coming our way!

I just had a horrible thought. What if Clara is really dead and the Doctor spends the rest of this season with a past version of her?

I think it's more likely that new week Clara and Missy will be back in the 2nd part of the story but yes it could be he goes and finds a past version of Clara.

That was the point I was making on a WhatCulture article. I think despite crying exterminate, she's actually just been transported somewhere

The was a good start for the new season. I enjoyed the classroom stuff. Then having her zoom off to UNIT on her motorcycle. Michelle Gomez I think has become my favourite Master. I love how she does Queen of Evil, & bat ****e crazy OH so well. As for th eDoctor Rocking out on his Axe well it's always fun watching Capaldi play.
As for Clara and Missy being dead will they where wearing time vortex manipulator on their wrist. I figured that they kicked in before they got killed.
Loved the hand mines.

I think Gomez is easily the weakest imo and I found the guitar very cringeworthy. But I did really like the Hand Minds. I thought they were awesome.

Right. I completely forgot they'd be a thread to discuss the episodes.

I want to say that I loved Julian Bleach's performance as Davros. I really really loved it. Thought Peter was wonderful as the Doctor.

I also don't think that Clara or Missy are dead.
