SDs #644 JK Was in Slytherin? That Explains A Lot!

Thread #643

Reading way, way too much of Harry Potter lately, but I noticed all sorts of similarities that can’t just be coincidence, right? JK must have been in Slitherin, along with Isabel and Tess (“there was never a wizard who went bad who wasn’t in Slitherin” – or something like that! ). The brave Liz was in Gryffindor, although she could easily have been in Ravenclaw (for her smarts) with Alex, who was a natural. Maria, Michael and Kyle were in HufflePuff (whomever wasn’t wanted elsewhere went in there). As far as Max, well, I don’t think a house exists that could hold Max. Or would want to. I’ll let that be everyone else’s guess.

About this Thread:

SD means Spoiled Dreamers. We spent our life on the Spoiler's Board until there was no more need for Spoilers. Those of us who read spoilers (and many of us do so for other shows too) call it .... "Turning to the dark side" because reading spoilers is a true roller coaster ride of highs and lows.

Yes! We are believers in the M/L with whom we fell in love in S1. We make NO excuses for the Max of the last six episodes of S2 on. We did NOT like Liz the doormat nor Max/Liz the armed robbers of S3. We tend to believe the PTB of Roswell lost their way, but we remember the TRUE characters - and we still enjoy and discuss them.

We also love to speculate and to discuss all things Roswell - the good, the bad, and the who-the-heck knows? We are critics as well as viewers. We discussed chads before they showed up on our TV, we discussed the characters and the mythology the same way, we critiqued episodes as to their production, acting, and directing. We have a long history of learned discussion and criticisms on those and all other aspects of Roswell. We still consider the question "How did a show so magical and beloved go so wrong?" to be unanswered.

We believe that The romance of Max and Liz was the heart of Roswell. If you are not a supporter of S1 M/L, you are on the wrong thread. We do not pretend Max wasn't a poop from late S2 on, nor that Liz wasn't a doormat in early S3. But other criticisms of them are not welcome.

Characters we generally like: Kyle, Alex, Jim, Michael, Maria, Jeff, Diane. We generally ignore/dislike/don't want or bother to discuss the others.

We generally like M/L poems, pics and animations of M/L. However, this is NOT a picture thread. Lots of our people have old computers and terrible connections, and there are other places they can find those.

One hard and fast rule! NO pics of anyone other than M/L on this thread.

You know, Roswell has finally blurred into one big lump of a distant memory. I can't even recall all of the episodes clearly. Hubby bought me S2 for Christmas even though I told him not to. I've yet to take it out even to look at the commentary. As for S3, eh, who cares. I didn't even know it had come out until I spotted it at Best Buy yesterday when I was looking for South Park S2 for a friend.

I guess I finally did put it behind me and moved on.

Speaking of moving on, is anyone going to watch Prison Break tonight on Fox? It's the season premier.
Who is that guy that's playing the lead character? He looks so familiar but for the life of me I can't place him.
The ads look interesting for it but I'm not sure about the plot though the reviewers are saying good things about it. I guess I'll give it a shot.

Sorry, I usually only lurk on this thread 'cause I have nothing intelligent to add. I plan on watching Prison Break and if you're talking about the younger brother he was in Mariah Carey's video, "We Belong Together." His name is Wentworth Miller, he's been on several things, nothing major. The older brother is played by Dominic Purcell, he was on the short lived but really good series "John Doe." I'll return to lurking now.

Morning SDs, looks like the gulf coast took a real beating - and we even had several tornadoes in Georgia last night.

Obas, welcome I loved that "John Doe" series, and was so mad at Fox when they dropped it, especially since the ratings weren't that bad for Friday night. I did watch Prison Break last night, and I really liked it. It kept my interest the entire two hours, and I'm looking forward to next week's episode. And Wentworth Miller was also on the last few episodes of "Joan of Arcadia" as 'the devil' or maybe just a minion, since JoA was cancelled - we'll never know.

I read one of the Roswell books "Little Green Men" which attempted to fill in the missing hole of what happened to all that blue alien jelly from the cave in the Hyperboring Chronicles.

And I thought S2 was the epitome of bad science and logic.

--For those who haven't read it, let's just say that several of the basic premises are flawed to start with. (If the aliens really make the water turn blue because the gandarium is reacting to their presence then why didn't the Valenti's notice the funky water for one, and why didn't the people glow brighter green when they were near?)

And it makes an attempt at explaining where in the world the whole Max/Tess working together started. Only recommended for those who are gluttons for punishment (ie more of S2 logic and follow-through).

Star look for a pm

p&wc, is that a published book? I don't recall that there's been any that have made it to print that have been that good or true to the facts already established in the show. But then that's just MHO.

Yes, it's published. Those aren't the only problems--If I recall the blue alien goo dripped all over Alex and Kyle--yet neither of them turn green. Then, when they are exposed to the water, they do. If full concentration doesn't work, then why would it work in the water? And if it is a build-up over time, then why didn't Sheriff Valenti turn green?

Obas Thanks, and feel free to pitch in your opinion anytime.

Hmm, I'll need to check out Wentworth Miller more. So far I've not seen anything that anyone has mentioned him being in. I haven't watched music videos since MTV had VJ, and never seen JofA either. But he just looks so familiar to me.

The show was pretty ingtriguing. I will probably watch it next Monday to see what happens.

Happy Thursday, Dreamers! I say that, and yet I am so blown away by the situation in New Orleans, etc. I've been so busy, I hadn't seen a lot of the footage of the events. Last night, I watched several of the shows and listened to so many there. I worry so much about those still hiding in atttics with no way to get out. Today, they are sending in teams of Seals to check.

And the horrid acts of so many people is unreal. One can understand stealing food (all of it would have to be tossed anyway, and human life is more important), but TV sets and jewelry? Some were taking many computers and TV sets. One reporter pointed out something that explains a lot. He said that none of the people in New Orleans have any access to radio or other media and haven't realized just how devastated the entire city is. That none of them will be allowed to stay. That none of the idiots/scumbags stealing TV sets are getting anywhere with them, because they aren't going to make room on the helicopters or boats for them. Duh!

But shooting at others, shooting at policemen so their pals can continue robbing jewelry stores, etc? And all the casinos have been cleared out. Awful behavior. How sad that they are going to have to use the police and military to stop the looters instead of being able to continue using them to rescue people who are in dire situations by now.

One can only keep remembering that for every act of lawlessness, there are multitudes of acts of kindness and bravery going on all around.

This story just keeps getting worse and worse. Now they're reporting that one of the Chinook heliocopters was shot at.

Let me just take a minute to stand on a political soapbox. I have been following this whole disaster closely since the morning after. I have to say that it has taken the government far too long to push this rescue mission into high gear. And can I also say that I can not stand to hear one single word that Bush has had to say about it all. Can he be more insincere?? IMO, his attitude is horrible and his attempt at being hopeful would be laughable if things weren't so serious. I just heard that he's meeting with his father and Clinton in hopes of coming up with additional answers.

RosGMom I don't agree with your take on Bush at all, and the references to Bush 41 and Clinton is to use them to help raise money just as they did for the tsunami, because people's attention will fall otherwise (or so said the disaster specialist I heard last night). There was some comment yesterday that people were shocked by how little had been donated, but I think that might have been more that many of us were unaware of just how bad everything was. Donations have really increased in the last 24 hours. Usually, the aid agencies are already there, but not here. One reporter yesterday said he had yet to see a single Red Cross person, vehicle, or anything.

FEMA was enacted even before the hurricane hit which is about as fast as can be done; they are supposed to handle the emergency situations in coordination with the states.

That seems to be have been where everything totally failed. The state and governor told everyone to get out. They told everyone the city would totally be under water. And yet, many refused to leave. One can excuse those who were too feeble to do so, but what can be said for all those with cars who didn't? We all know human nature. Those who ignore the rules and warnings and then brag about living through whichever hurricane it is are shown after every single hurricane. And so often, it turned out to hit lighter than thought or miss it entirely, so it encourages even more to refuse to leave.

But here is where I think true deriliction is shown. I have been hearing for YEARS what a disaster NO would be if a hurrican hit there directly. Their newspaper printed articles years ago that those without cars would be in dire circumstances in such a case. And yet, the city/state did nothing to plan for a way to evacuate people. I heard the governor complaining Saturday (after the warnings but before the hurricane hit) that it was all the federal government's fault. Hello! They have known that New Orleans would have massive problems all this time, probably for decades, and they did nothing to prepare?

The second deriliction that may be excusable is that the governor of Louisiana did not declare martial law immediately, giving the police the powers to arrest people. Of course, in later days, there was no where to take those arrested anyway, but still! The reason I could give a pass on this is that one person said that Louisiana law doesn't allow for the declaration of martial law. I have no idea if that is true; if so, it certainly wasn't the governor's fault.

But I couldn't help but compare the Lousiana officials with the reactions of the officials in NYC after 9/11. I could say the looting, too, but perhaps that has just been demostrated more in this case. The entire WTC came down so there wasn't anything to loot in comparison. Still, it has been most disheartening. I also compared the way Jeb Bush and other state officials and NGOS were all over their state in last year's hurricanes. The federal government didn't have to do everything because state officials did their jobs. It is certainly clear that Louisiana's officials are totally overwhelmed, and the federal government has to take over now.

Well I would have to say that in this particular case the state level already had their hands full on the very morning that Katrina blew through. With a disaster of this magnitude the Federal government certainly should have stepped in sooner, my point in fact in my post above.

I also have no doubt that there will forever be two distinctive camps on the entire issue and neither side unfortunately is any consolation right now to those who are now still trapped in these huge areas.

I'd like to appeal to anyone who hasn't already done so, that the next time you're hanging here online or are near to a phone, take that step and put your money where you're mouth is. Donate to the Red Cross, or other like agency for this tragedy. There are thousands upon thousands who need your help and prayers.
