I think any fan of Science Fiction or Fantasy has to be willing to take a leap of faith and accept some outrageousness. It's up to the person telling the story to make it engaging and plausible enough that others will buy into it.

Humans mistreat them, call them “Morks”, force them to work in menial jobs and live in a lawless walled ghetto called Troy where they sell their hair for Earthlings to smoke as a recreational drug.
