I have to wonder if the Euro gas prices are higher, because the cars are generally smaller and better on them than our American cars though. I mean my truck gets about 24 miles to the gallon, my mother's Jeep gets even less than that.

Is there any difference between a European gallon and an American gallon? Because on the net I always see "US gallon", and I figured they wouldn't need to clarify if all gallons were the same amount.

The gas prices are not everywhere in Europe so expensive. Especially here in Germany, Denmark...,because the state has over 70% tax on the litre gas. I dont know the exact tax in the USA but they are far lower then here.

The most countries in Europe uses the measure litre (except GB for example with UK Gallons - different from US).
I used only the measure Gallon that you could see the differents between the prices in Europe and the USA. I pay now between €1,14 - €1,22 for the litre plus (changes every day). 1litre are 0.264 US Gallons. My curent car uses 9litre on 100km. That would be 2,376 Gallons on 62,15miles or 1 Gallon on 26,15miles. So my car uses only a little less gas then yours, Cas.

Cars like VW Lupo or Ford Fiesta... only uses 5litre on 100km (1Gallon on 47miles) but that has nothing to do with the gas prices.

I would love it but I couldnt buy a car with an V6 or V8 (Shelby Cobra GT500 ) with over 300HP and 5litre engine because the gas is too expensive and I would pay more then 500€ maintenance in the month.

I pay for my Mazda6 with 2litre engine and 140HP €120 maintenance in the month. And ~ €76 for a full tank. Thats quite enough.
