Yeah - without Doyle there isn't a show is there? Angel just hangs around for three months, the show starts the day Doyle turns up because he gives Angel the mission and some meaning to his post Buffy life. The show is built around the core of the family, the family's world revolves around the visions and so Doyle is responsible for putting the team together and building it even when he isn't there anymore. And obviously the impact he has on Cordelia is huge.
I'd love to have had more onscreen Doyle because he's so great, so much fun to watch and has wonderful chemistry with the others. I love how he just gets Angel and understands what he's thinking - I think Angel really missed that when it was gone, all the way through the show. Lorne had a similar understanding but was a lot more pushy and in Angel's face, whereas Doyle knew when to hold back and was much gentler in his approach. Buuut ... I am glad that rather than have Doyle go through the misery on screen, I can rewrite everything to include him - so I get the amount of Doyle (plus Doyle/ Angel friendship and Doyle/Cordy ship) that I want and I get to control how much pain he has to go through and make sure nothing too bad happens to him. I couldn't do that if he'd been in the show for longer and god knows what would have happened to him. The Buffyverse is a brutal place to have to live |

You are sure right which is why Doyle will always be the one I give the most credit for.
Even if you go on his Buffy days, Angel really didn't do much but wait around and wait until something was asked of him. Doyle and his visions gives Angel that mission that changes his life to turn him around to the path of becoming a hero. I felt how different Doyle and Angel were is what happened the chemistry and the friendship and as you mentioned, he sort of read Angel right away and had a vibe of how his personality was. Doyle was just special. |

Yes - Angel really comes into his own on his own show, after not having much to do over on Buffy, and it's Doyle that brings him out of his shell. I just love the conversation they have in 'Hero' - the 'you fight and I'll keep score' bit - the way they smile at each other, they had such an amazing bond after so little time. I don't think Angel ever really develops that with anyone else - not even Cordy.

Doyle was just so great at communicating. And he was really gentle in getting Angel to open up, he never pushed - he just sat back and let it happen. He was such a great bridge between Angel and Cordelia, helping them understand each other. I know losing him is what brings them closer together, but I think they could have got just as close if he had stayed - he would have just acted as the mediator

although it might get to a point where Angel was a bit of a third wheel but then he does awkward so well it would have been such a lot of fun to watch!

Yeah, that would definitely create some funny moments!
Plus, I think Angel might be a bit relieved, so that the two of them can hang out & he can just brood alone like he wants to __________________

I will always love that Doyle is the first friend Angel truly had.
