You never know whether characters are proper friends or just colleagues, allies or boss/worker... but those tears Jack shed when he found out Palmer was dead, really showed me how much he cared... although with this friendship (as well as Chloe and Tony) the audience could tell that the friendship was genuine, but that tear was really powerful all the same...

I agree, I loved that moment.. although it was sad. When Jack Bauer was on the run from the security guards but he stopped running and even took off the glasses when he saw David Palmer's body. He was just like in disbelief. I know it hurt Jack Bauer cause if he could have done anything to prevent his death earlier he would have, it's a death no one saw coming because David Palmer wasn't even President anymore, or anything.

S5, I think it was realistically that the only thing that can really get Jack Bauer out of hiding was the death of one of his closes friends in David Palmer. Even though Chloe called him, Jack had to figure out who was responsible.
The moment from 501 was so powerful to me when Jack figured out that Haas was the guy who killed David Palmer... he knew then, Haas was going to die. He just shot him straight up. I loved that scene.
