Absolutely.

But yes, Dawson/Gretchen was the definition of contrived. You knew from the moment they got together they were never lasting and it was only for Dawson to have someone to talk to while we endured painfully unhealthy PJ scenes (and for Joey's jealousy to come out).

Plus, Gretchen was someone who would still tie Dawson to Pacey (and Joey) since she was Pacey's sister.

Exactly.

Pacey was certainly not my favorite in season 4. One of the biggest reasons is how he reacted to Dawson and Gretchen. How incredibly hypocritical of him to get mad and throw a fit. He had zero right reacting at all given what he did to Dawson at the end of season 3.

I never understood why Pacey didn't break up with her during this time period when it was more than obvious she wasn't over Dawson.

I know. Because he kept giving.

It was absolutely ridiculous. Pacey screwed himself in three ways:

1. He lost his friendship with Dawson. Let's be honest... his friendship with Dawson was never the same after what he pulled at the end of season 3.
2. He had to endure knowing Joey's heart was always with Dawson.
3. He lost the true love of his life in Andie, all because of his horrible behavior and mistakes.

The ultimate was actually having to end up with Joey too.

Pacey was basically sentenced to life in prison. Seriously.

PJ were so unhealthy in season 4. Season 6, same thing, they were unhealthy. Along with Jen, Pacey received the worst ending.

Joey was miserable in season 4, lol.

The look on Joey's face when she saw Dawson and Gretchen kissing says this to me; Hey, I'm allowed to get naked with Pacey, but how dare you kiss another girl.

Pacey seeing Joey's expression should have turned around and left. He would have realized exactly who Joey was into.

Right?! She was such a hypocrite. How dare she try to make it seem like Dawson was doing something wrong given what she pulled. I wish Dawson would have gotten mad about it. He should have told her she had no right throwing a fit.

Exactly. He looked so stupid putting up with that. She couldn’t have made it more obvious. He knew it and still stayed with her until he finally blew up. Incredible.

He was, indeed.

Both Pacey and Joey were.

What moments do you think really demonstrated Pacey being a hypocrite?

The one moment that jumps out is taking Andie to the prom.

"It would be an honour to take you" Then he S@@@ all over Andie.
