I started the seventh season a few days ago then stopped at episode 4 because it was putting me to sleep. Is it just me or does the cast seem out of character like they aren't into the writing? It just feels off. I liked season 6 better than season 5 but would have been perfectly happy ending with season 4.

Wise choice stopping after a few in season 7! We did a watch on this thread several years ago and due to loyalty I kept watching for the group but if watching alone I would have stopped early season 7 and never looked back. It was my first time watching seasons 7-9 too but I didn’t care. The series felt foreign and Monster’s tricks were obvious. I hated season 5 too (overall, it had some good moments but the addition of Lindsey was awful). I would have been just fine with the series ending after 4 seasons. Certainly after 6 seasons too. Something did seem different in seasons 7-9 and I noticed it the most with Clay and Quinn. This pairing felt like bad fan fiction coming to life on the screen. The attempt to make them the Lucas/Peyton replacement was weak and did not work. The pairing was annoying and lacked any real chemistry or believability. I also think the "new brother relationship" in Nathan and Clay was forced and felt fake too. The genuine feeling/energy fell flat in seasons 7-9. Plus, the writing was forced and off. Monster was determined to trash Chad/Hilarie as much as possible (for leaving) so he inserted in weird moments to rip Lucas/Peyton. It was bizarre. Sophia/Joy/James had to have known what he was doing.
