Why didnt they think to have a High Commander of the Federation to begin with? if they are adding characters so late in the day then I say they should re-add Alive Eve as Carol. At least there woul be a reason to add her to tie in with previously established material. Otherwise why add her in Into Darkness
at all if they werent going to take the story to its natural conclusion?

Agree with you there. Even if it was just a couple of scenes to flesh out the backstory previously established about a fling with Kirk.

I just dont understand the reasoning of the studio execs and those behind the casting. It seems without JJ around in person, she was just unceremoniously dropped.

When there's different writers for each movie, continuity often suffers.

I seen something the other day speculating that the film would do something in tribute of Leonard Nimoy.

Like how the caracter was dropped originally after The Wrath of Khan and certain bits were refilmed to make it seem like Kirk was the one making the Genesis video in subsuquent films. Never understood that at all.

They're hoping we don't remember all the specific details.

It certainly makes their job easier when they don't worry too much about matching things up.
