Prince William paid tribute tonight to fashion designer Ralph Lauren, who is funding a breast cancer research centre at The Royal Marsden. William: “I am enormously grateful to Ralph Lauren for his generosity, and to all of you who so kindly support the hospital. You should know that what you do saves lives and gives hope to thousands of people.”

Prince George greets baby of Zara Phillips with a royal food fight
May 19, 2014 21:24
By Victoria Murphy

It was the Battle of Gripe-Waterloo as Prince George launched his rusks at cousin Mia who was not amused

Prince George has met his little cousin Mia in an encounter new dad Mike Tindall described as “carnage”.

The future king failed to impress his baby cousin by throwing food everywhere, but Mia took it all in her stride and simply slept.

Speaking at his second annual Celebrity Golf Classic for his charity Rugby for Heroes, Mike told the Mirror how he and wife Zara took Mia to meet the Cambridges at Highgrove when she was just two months old.

Mike said: “I don’t think Mia will remember that day, she was two months old, but it was great, it was carnage.

“George was eating at the time.

“He’d got to that stage where more food goes on the table than in his mouth.

“Mia was just chilling and sleeping, she sleeps a lot, she’s quite relaxed.”

Mia, who was born on January 17, was the centre of attention yesterday at Mike’s charity day as she stole the show in pictures with her mum and dad.

She is great-granddaughter to the Queen and 16th in-line to the throne, but unlike Prince George will not have a title, royal protection officers or a future mapped out with official duties.

Champion equestrian Zara is very close to her cousin William, so Mia and George are sure to be childhood friends but Mike told yesterday how they have so far only met each other once because Prince William and Kate have been so busy.

He said about discussing parenting with William: “He’s too busy, we don’t see him very often, he’s so busy but I’m sure when we have a proper catch-up we might do.”

Mike also said Zara was “loving” being a mum and added about becoming a father: “Once you get to four months and they start smiling at you, when you get interaction your bonds grow more and more.

“Like this morning I was playing with her and she smiles if you do something funny and it makes you feel good about yourself.”

The former England rugby captain added: “When you are sports people you are driven by being in the right physical or mental state to do this but when you become a parent that’s not your main priority.

“Mia is your main priority and whatever you do you do for her.

“What’s at the top of my decision making is what’s going to be right so I can spend time with Mia.”

Zara’s sister-in-law Autumn Phillips has helped Mike organise this year’s golf day, which last year raised £50,000 for his charity Rugby for Heroes which supports various projects to help former service men and women make the transition to civilian life.

Mike said: “The money went to different things to help former servicemen and women.

“It’s all about getting them back out there and into work and showing that there is a way forward.

“We support Hire a Hero which helps people who have fought and don’t really know what they want to do when they come back and they can’t find a job.

“People can hire a hero or help them get work placements for what best suits their skills.

“When you hear from people how these programmes have helped them it’s hard to put it into words, it’s obviously changed their lives.

“Last year we were stepping into the unknown but we got really good feedback so we’ve managed to get ISPS Handa and Artemis to come on board and sponsor us for another three years.

“The main thing is that everyone has a good day, it’s not all about the golf, it’s about socialising as well.”

Mike was supported yesterday by his celebrity friends including Natalie Pinkham, Sir Steve Redgrave and Dragon’s Den entrepreneur Peter Jones at the event at Celtic Manor Golf Resort in Newport, Wales.

Mike and Zara moved back onto Princess Anne’s Gatcombe Park estate last year after selling their Cheltenham townhouse.

Not only do they have Zara’s mum close by to help with baby Mia but they also have her brother Peter, his wife Autumn and their two daughters Savannah, three and Isla, two.

Mike said: “It’s great because they’re just across the road.

“We’ve got Shetland Ponies over at ours and Savannah and Isla are always over riding the horses so we get to see them all the time.”

Wait, is Kate really pregnant? Or is that still a rumor? Has it been confirmed?
