According to my very Scottish husband, hot tea cools you down because it kickstarts your body's natural cooling mechanism

Speaking as someone who doesn't like to drink liquids over ice, trust me: when it gets that hot, the only thing cooling you down is ice cold liquids. I typically drink my water sans ice, but there are some times when I can't cool down at all until I add ice to my water. I'll just be gulping down tepid water and it does nothing to cool me off.

That is actually true. It's like if your hot you're not meant to throw cold water on your face or use an ice pack because your body will fight against the cold and make you twice as hot

I have on occasion drank hot water when I was thirsty because I was dehydrated in my car and had nothing but the water heated by the sun. It didn't cool me off, but the heat felt good on my parched throat.


Fun Fact: Doctoral students at the U of A ran an experiment where they cooked a whole beef roast inside a car on a hot day.


No but seriously. I don't drink ice cold liquids often. Room temp water is better for you for the reason listed above. But heat stroke is a real and serious thing here, and drinking hot liquids when you're hot won't help. And elsewhere in the South, it doesn't help to drink hot stuff because even though you're sweating, it's not evaporating, so you'd only be making yourself hotter. The only way to lower your core temp in those situations is to drink cold liquids.

I like to drink cold, hot, warm during hot day.. I dunno why.. But I rarely to get ice unless if I really need it..

I usually put enough ice to cool the liquid down, but not enough to stick around. Like just a few cubes.

I actually can't drink water without ice at work. Doesn't matter if I'm cold, I have to have ice in it! I'm just picky like that.

I tend to do that at home, but at work or classes, I just drink either cold/warm water..

A lot of people love their ice. I have sensitive teeth, so I don't generally like drinking it with a ton of ice because the cubes get in the way and hit my teeth and cause pain, etc.
