The godparents do not have to be the legal guardians of minor children, just agree that they will ensure children will be raised in the Catholic faith. This could happen...not that we'll ever see it.

I am seriously loving these two together and the potential for more is huge...please add me to "the list" when you have the chance.
When all those Christianity things come up I feel like such an ignorant Jew! I really have tried to learn a lot about other religions over the years, but so many things about Christianity are completely puzzling to me.

Also, thanks people for the compliments for the graphic! It was a pretty quick one but fun doing.

I updated the list - if you want to be on it and haven't explicitly told me so, please do.

Hopefully which is of course entirely S/T's decision.

Love Tom for accompanying his bro over at Mary's room and that talk.

I love the images of Matthew and Tom together.

Agreed with the comments about M/M being godparents. I guess if the baby is baptized at Downtown then it wouldn't be in the Catholic faith. Present day at least one godparent must be a Catholic in good standing with the Church (at least that was the case when I had my son baptized and I'm in the US) and the other godparent could be a baptized Christian. I seriously doubt in the 1920's that was the case though since it was pre-Vatican II.

Back in the day, you not only did the godparent have to be a Catholic, but also of the same gender as the child. So only godmothers for girls and godfathers for boys. (Lapsed Catholic here. I'm not that old but it was the case for my Dad who was baptized pre-Vatican II.)

Two hot men at the door, how could Mary say no to them?

Stepping into this thread because the M&T friendship was one of the highlights of ep1.

They spoke to each other with respect but when needed to, were honest. I especially liked Tom's line "It seem big but it's not big." That's the best advice of all - some things are more important than those rows about money or relations etc we all have. It was the advice of a married man!
